I’m looking for a set it and forget it grill that smokes too. I have Weber kettles and a Masterbuilt Gravity. Been researching pellet grills and it seems for my budget ( less than a kidney ) the Rec Teq 590 or possibly the 700 would work for me. Looked at Camp Chef and Yoder’s but don’t need a 2000.00 Yoder.

What do you guys have and recommend? Stick smokers need not apply. I know they’re awesome but I don’t want to be a babysitter.

Go with Kamado/ceramic if you're wanting the best. Big Green Egg, Kamado Joe or Primo. They do everything from smoking to grilling to searing and do everything amazing......without the need for electricity.

Agreed, but no pellets here.

Had an XL Kamado Joe and sold it. Cooked a 20 pound whole chuck roast once for 22 hours and it was juicy but I wasn’t crazy about the flavor even though I used Meat Church, my favorite seasonings. It was a pain to light so I wound up snaking charcoal on my Weber kettle grill most of the time. Strange because everyone we know that has one loves their BGE’s or Kamado grill.

I have mastered mine. Very easy to light, hope you used lump charcoal.

I would not ever get rid of mine....mine is the Big Joe 2. It's huge!

I have a big pit boss and a tabletop pit boss for hamburgers and steaks and a whole chicken or whatever.

They’re both awesome and I was the one making fun of my buddies for buying a “man oven” but the big pit boss was on sale at Lowe’s regular $699 on sale for $479 so I got it to try. It’s awesome.

Now for my sausage making I’ll still use my smokehouse with wood but for briskets and pork butts, ribs, the pit boss is the chit.

Shane, if I had a set-up like yours I wouldn’t mind watching over my cookouts. That’s really nice.

Same difference but I’m running 2 Big Green Eggs, an XL and a Medium. The kitchen has a gas grill built in but I only use it currently as a warming box, Ceramic grill, lump coal and don’t look back...

Forget pellet, go electric with the Masterbuilt. Set it, forget it, then set an alarm clock for when it s ready.

I have a Kamado Joe Junior that works good for me and my wife. Anything more than a single rack of ribs or a brisket point is too much meat. But I love it and it works amazingly well. [Linked Image]

The Masterbuilt Gravity makes fantastic tasting food. Using lump with chunks of mesquite and or hickory mixed in really gives the food great flavor but even after the two years it’s been out they still haven’t got the bugs worked out. I’ve cooked whole choice Rib roasts that wound up tasting like Prime Rib and pork butts that we’re out of this world good. Made pulled pork and some incredible carnitas.
I just don’t feel comfortable using it and leaving it unattended because it’ll shut down or the temp will go up unexpectedly at times.

I love my Rec Tec. My briskets are way better than my brothers BGE. Maybe he just sucks but the flavor of mine are so much better and smokier.

I've got a Camp Chef DLX24 and love it. For longer smokes I use a smoker tube inside as well. It has a sear station add on as well which I use to reverse sear meat and grill burgers. I hear great things about the Rec Tec as well and it is supposed to be great at temperature stability.

I was very happy with my electric Masterbuilt. I picked up a Recteq 680 here in the Mound for $300, put the new WiFi electronics (HUGE difference vs Bluetooth) in it and haven’t turned the MB on since. 40lb pellet bin in the back and it keeping rock solid temp settings are very nice.
