Looks like Taylor Sheridan, the Yellowstone creator, is buying all 3 parcels....listed for 347 million. And will keep it as is, including keeping all the employees.

If all is true, good on him.

Wow!

He may be the face of it but it’s an investment group.

But, glad to see them keeping the ranch intact. Very noble vision he has

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

That’s an iconic Texas ranch. That’s pretty cool of whoever the buyer(s) is to keep the employees and ranch intact.

https://www.kcbd.com/2021/05/03/historic-west-texas-s-ranch-under-contract/

By KCBD Staff | May 3, 2021 at 4:13 PM CDT - Updated May 4 at 4:15 PM
LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - The legendary 6666′s Ranches, first established in 1870 and now spanning hundreds of thousands of acres across west Texas, are now under contract after being up for sale since December 2020. The ranches are were on the market for a total of $347.7 million.

Reports are that the buyer could be the screenwriter/producer Taylor Sheridan. Sheridan’s Paramount+ Western series “Yellowstone” shot segments last year on the ranch’s Guthrie and Borger County divisions. The actual offer on the historic ranch is not known.

Sam Middleton, Owner/Broker of Chas. S Middleton and Son Farm - Ranch Sales, announced the 6666′s Ranches sale in a release in December.

According to The Texas Spur, “Sheridan is the face of the buyer group,” said Middleton, who said that the new owners plan to continue running the working ranch and to offer employment to all employees. “It’s all one deal, 266,000 acres with all three ranches . . . cattle, horses, equipment, furniture, brand, name, everything.”

Sheridan, reached by The Texas Spur through his Los Angeles manager while traveling, said, “I can’t comment on a pending transaction but I will say this: the legacy of the 6666 Ranch and Miss Marion’s vision for the ranch are vital not only to the ranch itself, but the rich heritage of ranching in Texas.”

He added, “This legacy is so important to me I chose to highlight it in the upcoming season of ‘Yellowstone’ and will continue to further the legacy and preserve its operations in a manner consistent with that great vision.”

This is the first time the ranches have been under contract in “its storied history.”

These ranches are comprised of three separate divisions for a total of 266,255± acres. The 6666′s Ranch located at Guthrie, Texas contains 142,372± acres. The Dixon Creek section spans 114,455± acres of land in Carson and Hutchinson counties. The third division is Frisco Creek, with 9,428± acres located in Sherman County.

The 6666′s Ranch began with Captain Samuel Burk Burnett, who became one of the most influential and prosperous cattlemen in the history of Texas, after he purchased the land from the Louisville Land and Cattle Company.

At the age of 19, Burnett purchased 100 head of cattle which had been branded with the 6666′s brand, soon to be the namesake of the 8 ranch he then purchased near Guthrie in King County. Soon after, he purchased the Dixon Creek Ranch in the Texas Panhandle and also began to expand the 8 Ranch into what now is known as the 6666′s Ranch.

The impressive main house, built in 1917, still stands at the 6666′s Ranch.

After Captain Burnett’s death in 1920, he willed the bulk of his estate to his daughter, Anne Valliant Burnett. Oil was discovered on the property in 1921 and business expanded greatly.

By 1936, there were 20,000 Hereford cattle on the ranch, as well as purebred quarter horses.

In February of this year, the descendent of Captain Burnett, Anne Burnett Marion passed away. The terms of her will dictated all of her ranching operations would be sold.

Hope the buyer does keep the ICON ranch in tac . Do not know if it is true but the story I heard the name 6666 came from the poker hand the owner had when he won a large part of the ranch.

The Montana ranch location bordered the ranch I hunted in Montana and the Smith River runs through part of it, some good hunting for mule and whitetail deer, pronghorn, bear, mt. lion and elk where the local heard gets increased a lot with good snows in the larger mountains to the West. I have caught brookies and cut throats in Beaver Creek near where it meets the Smith River, We did see a few moose in the area as well.

The horse breeding operation is amazing. They stand close to 40 stallions....including the King Ranch stallions. Dr. Glen Blodgett is a great guy running it.

The Montana ranch is supposed to be drop dead gorgeous. The cost to board a stallion at the 6666 is mind boggling. Real $ only.

But the cost of building a breeding facility in todays world of AI, embryo transfer, and the like....is prohibitive too. It is why stallion stations like the 6666, Brazos Valley Equine, Osgood, and others are around, and more economical for the stud owner.

The Guthrie Ranch is just down the road from our Quail lease, I called around when we first got on our lease trying to find the closest vet in case we ever have an issue with a dog while out there, called the vet in Spur and they told me to call the 6666 ranch so we did, they said they have a 24hr vet staff and if we ever have an issue, they would be glad to help, day or night.

The Cowboy at our lease said they are a great bunch of people and help other ranches and hurt / sick horses for everyone around the area.

Hopefully this is true and nothing will change.

A portion of the 6666 is in Hutchinson County near Borger. As a young teen , I must have trespassed on it hundreds of time.
Never got caught.

Exactly. I think a guy born in small town Texas with a appreciation for the ranch is the absolute best case scenario.

Hope that historic ranch stays true to it's creation.

I've seen those liberal money men come in and buy big Texas ranches and manage them with a liberal mindset.

I hope this isn't the case this time.
