I have this rifle that was just handed down to me, Remington Mohawk 600 in .308. The scope is a newer Redfield, 3-9 x 40. We took this scope out of the box about 6-7 years ago, mounted, bore sighted and proceed to shoot a great group. My dad took it home, put it away and hasn't been out of his closet until he gave it to me. I want to hunt with this rifle and need more magnification. I'll be selling the scope once I learn a few things about it, information is scarce on Redfield. I'd like to hear from anyone that has experience with this rifle, we sighted it in with cheap ammo, and it shot great. The 18" barrel is great for handling and shooting, but I'm looking at some velocity loss. What shoots well for those that hunt with this rifle? [Linked Image]

Just curious but why would you need more magnification on a 308 than 9x? I have a 3x9 on a 7mm Mag and have made shots up to 500 yards and never had an issue. Get whatever you want since it is your rig but I am curious.

Damm, if it's for sale I'm interested (rifle) not scope!

Just asking a question. Yet you decide to come off with a really stupid and rather rude reply. Why would I have expected an intelligent and civil answer? By the way, more magnification doesn't make you a better shot nor does it make the rifle any more accurate. Time spent of the range shooting does and time spent hunting with the rifle also does. Something tells me, based on your reply, that you don't spend much time doing either.

You have a "nice" day.

I had almost the same question as QMC SW/EXW when I read the first post. Shorter barreled fairly light weight 308 as a hunting rifle to me screams for a light weight scope keeping the package handy and light weight. But what do I know mount a Hubble telescope size optic on it if you like, it is your rifle after all.

At a friends shop I did mount a 8-32 Night Force on his little handy Remington Model 7, what ever floats you boat.

How pathetic it must be to go through life as dumb as you are. Normally I would feel sorry for someone so pathetic but in your case I think I'll just go with feeling sorry for your family instead. I don't have to deal with you or associate with you but they don't have that choice. Please do us all a favor and don't bring any children in the world. You have provided your share of retards already.

Yep that was pretty much the way I was thinking. But I never did get an intelligent reply and now I'm thinking that intelligence is simply beyond the mental capacity of the OP. With that, I am gone.

I've have a lot of reasons to keep this one forever. It's the rifle Dad used on our last hunt together. Not only that, it's a fantastic shooter. It's light and moves to a ready position in what is to me, a natural motion. Being a .308, I won't be looking for different ammo as I use this as a backup. I'm hoping it likes the same 165 gr. I shoot out of my Tikka CTR.

Well this thread went south quickly ... I just wanted to admire that fine hunting rifle . I’m cool with you using whatever scope you choose, it is yours after all.

Regardless the scope you choose to put on it....I'd look for the lowest profile base and mounts. Presently....the scope on it sits incredibly high and I would think would make it difficult to get a good 'cheek weld' on the stock.

I agree. I'm not a fan of the Leupold mount and rings that were on it. A mount for this is not easy to source. EGW makes one. They have a schematic that shows center to center locations of the holes. I'm within .0005", so I'm certain it will fit. Weaver makes one for a 600, not 600 Mohawk. I read a few reviews stating that the mount would fit the 600, but not the later 600 Mohawk. Wanting to get it right the first time I pulled out the digital calipers. I really like my Leupold VX5-HD, we'll see.

I'd get some medium Talley rings and a Bushnell Engage 2.5-15X50 with illuminated fire dot

Should run you around $350-$400 total minus what the Redfield brings in.

I saw that scope. I liked it, but not the reticle, or the size of the objective. I have a 50mm in a Leupold VX6, but want to keep this one to 40, maybe 44. I'm not well versed on Bushnell. I'll see if they have the Engage in the size I'm after with a duplex reticle.

Prolly going with Leupold VX3 HD, 4.5-14 x 40. I have the VX5 & 6. Still doing some research. I think the glass is the same, just don't see the side focus on the 3. Thanks.

I have a VX3 4.5-14 x 50 with a 30mm tube with B&C reticle sitting on a 7mm that is great. Mine has a side focus. But recently I was looking for same scope up in higher power without success, as evidently they have discontinued the B&C reticle unless it might be somewhere in left over inventory or used. The glass in the VX3 is very clear.
