Got a smoking on an immaculate condition Ford F-250 king ranch with only 175k miles. New ties and has all the bells and whistles. Listed at 16k, should I buy it? I’m thinking yes. NADA values that truck way higher than that but I have a 2009 f 150 that’s paid off and fine. This would def last longer and is a smoking deal so I could just sell the f 150 and still be paid off.
I just hate how expensive they are to fix compared to a gas powered.
Thoughts ?

Don't rember the year they stopped. But if its a 6.0 diesel , RUN. They are ticking time bombs.

Don't rember the year they stopped. But if its a 6.0 diesel , RUN. They are ticking time bombs. 2007 was the last year of the 6.0L in the SuperDuty chassis. Nothing wrong with them and they will last if you do the maintenance and upgrades that are well known. I had an 2007 and did the EGR delete (programmer), the coolant filter, upgraded stand pipe o-rings, fuel pressure spring and had a tuner on it. I did replace the FICM and FICM power supply once. Other than that no issues. It ran just fine loaded or unloaded. If you get an earlier one 2005 and prior... then there are some upgrades that need to be proactively done. But no DEF on the 6.0L and all the issues are vetted out with solutions. I wouldn't hesitate if you can confirm what's been done to it. Stay away from the 6.4L though. 2008-2012 I think.

I believe they were made for a very short 2 years, 08-10. My Stepdad owns a 6.0 and he tells me everytime I ask about the 6.4's to stay away from em.

So that's all they need to be OK? I am a technician and I myself would never buy a diesel anything much less anything with that many miles. I have blue titles for all four of my vehicles and I intend to never have a loan again. Moved the whole topic as nothing is for sale in the original post.
Pass the gravy.

Sorry, 2010 is the year and yea it’s the 6.4. They’ve done a bunch of maintenance so I don’t know if that’s a good thing or a bad thing.. it’s like have they done all of the major work or is this going to continue? Nothing recent needed to be done though. This is a private party sale and not a dealership. I told them my offer would be contingent on taking it to a certified diesel mechanic and getting their thoughts. I always heard to stay away from the 6.0 but I’m also reading to stay away from the 6.4 too on this thread.
I do appreciate everyone’s opinions and keep them coming please.
They did do the delete as well.

I drove a 6.0 for about 4 years and it did well. Was told something about the head studs/bolts that might need upgraded because they supposedly pull them or stretch them under a heavy load and such . Idk but I never had a problem with it and pulled more weight than I probably should have
My opinion is if you don't need the diesel for working, pulling ect , I would pass on having one. Just my opinion. They do cost more in maintenance and when things do go wrong they do cost more in my experience

I wouldn’t take that truck. I’d rather not have to deal with a 6.4 PSD
Never been to a camping world. I prefer Dick's to be honest.

They did do the delete as well. 6.4 is bad on radiators, and any thing related to the particular filter. I'd pass, of all the Ford PSD’s I've owned, 6.4 was my least favorite .

Stay away from the 6.4L though. 2008-2012 I thi and stud the heads Ford Gaskets and ARP studs will always help if you really go crazy on the tuner. If you have overheated it and need to go into the heads, then might as well. No reason to stud the heads if you don't have a problem and plan to stay within reason. On my 6.0L I think I had the tune for 100+ HP and 150+ Torque. Have your gauges and watch EGT, boost and keep an eye on the difference between the oil temps and the coolant temps. Should be no more than 12-15 deg difference at operating temps. That's the initial indicator for issues. I'm with some of the other guys here... that I wouldn't personally buy a high mileage diesel (or even mid mileage) if I didn't absolutely know the maintenance history. And I would always pass on a 6.4L in favor of a 6.7L. Enough of the 6.7L out there to know the issues and what's needed to keep them running. Good advice to go gas if you want to keep your future maintenance costs in check.
