I have been hunting elk for many years and have always done DOI hunts in public land. I have been fortunate to take 2 nice bulls, both were 5x5’s. I am almost 75 now and would really like the opportunity to take at least a 6x6. I think my best opportunity to do that is with a quality Guide/outfitter. I am especially looking for someone in New Mexico or Colorado as it is closer to my home state of Texas but any other recommendations would be greatly appreciated as well. I know it is all hunting and no guarantee but I am just trying to improve my odds. Thanks in advance.

I would also look at West Texas, there is a growing herd out there with some dang good bulls. One thing about Texas no tags or draw. The elk are on private land so hunts are usually through the ranch or outfitter that works the ranch or ranches,

Lone Ranger,
I hunted with this outfit last year and had a blast. going back this year. Mike Bondurant runs it....good dude. we saw enormous numbers of elk. the terrain is rolling sand dunes at the base of a 14k foot peak, so not nearly as strenuous as many of the elk hunts I have been on. would highly recommend.

Like I said in my post I have taken a couple of nice 5x5's on DOI hunts but am looking for a 6x6 or larger. Were you able to take a bull on your hunt? Also, which location did you choose an what time of year. Thanks for the info.
