Now a newborn fawn is nothing unusual around my house this time of year, but the one I found this morning is. It’s inside my backyard. It had to have come through the wrought iron fence right after birth. There were 2 blood smears on the siding around the corner from where I found it. I guess it was born in the flower bed right outside the fence, the deer have left them there before. I was quite startled when I reached down to turn on the s picket on the way to the dog kennels this morning. I relocated it outside the fence, hoping momma comes by soon. It was wet due to a shower this morning.

At my parents house they have a few born inside their chain link fenced back yard every year. I swear the does use it like a play pen. No dogs in their yard and the fawns cant get out and no predators get in. After a few weeks they can jump out with their mommas. They have been doing it for years. It used to be a pain in the rear when I was a kid living at home and we had dogs.

I fenced off the whole backyard last year with 6-8’ to keep the rascals out, and more room for the dogs to run. This one was small enough to go through the wrought iron section. Guess I need some wire mesh along the bottom. I’m just worried the fawn hasn’t eaten since being born. I usually find a least one dead one in the yard every year. Mostly from cars.

All joking aside, we have had to run them out of my folks yard on occasion, seems like they usually find a place to hide and momma gets em.

And now it came back. Hopefully it stays out of the backyard, the bird dogs won’t like it.

Turn your E-collar on high and freak them from chasing.

They know better than to chase with e-collar on.
This fawn may not make it long, I just ran off a CaraCara and a hawk. Hawk was roosted in a mesquite close by, and the CaraCara was walking up to it.

Nature knows what to do or there wouldn't be any wild deer.

Saw the first fawn around here about 2 days ago. About a mile down the road. I. have watched several being born in our yard. Its strange how momma will leave them alone for quite a while at times.

It moved this afternoon, so we went out front looking for it. It came up to me in a wobbly run. Then started biting at the rock retaining wall. I’m guessing it was hungry. It laid down again and we went inside. Went out checking again and it was gone. Hoping to see it again tomorrow.
