With Mothers Day coming up I always think of both my mom AND my dad.

Let me tell you about my dad's great love and appreciation for my mom. Hunting season traditionally starts 1 May in SA. Mothers Day is normally very close to or on the start of hunting season. That's just for information purposes. It has no bearing on my dad's philosophy.

You see, my dad loved my mom so much that he reasoned as follows: Us men are always making a mess around the house, getting in the way, asking our wives to make coffee and requesting this meal and that. What better gift then, to the mother of our children, than having the day off. With the men out of the way the women can have a lovely tea party, paint their nails, not have to make coffee or tidy up after us and can attend to cooking the delicious evening meal at their leisure. And since we are going to be out of the way and out of the house we might as well make it a rule to go hunting on Mother's Day and the weekend prior and after!

I'm only 50 and have a few years left in me yet. I hope my dad isn't disappointed that I haven't had the courage to propose the above to my wife.
