 Can I take a Pulsar Trail Thermal Scope to South Africa

Is it legal to carry my Pulsar Trail to South Africa? I know very little about ITAR and do not want to end up in hot water with the .gov.
Any direction is appreciated.

Short answer- No. Your Pulsar device is controlled by the State Department under ITAR.
Long Answer- Maybe. I've known several hunters and videographers to successfully leave the country and return with "night vision" equipment just by declaring it on a CBP 4457 form before leaving the country.
Better Longer Answer- Work with your attorney to secure carnet papers and Official Written Permission from the US Gov. for your device to temporarily leave the country.

Also make sure that it is not illegal where you will be going...meaning even if you get it out of the US, make sure they won't confiscate it as contraband once you arrive. Make sure that once you get it in country that they will allow you to then export it out of country as well. Just because the US will take it back does not mean that the other country will allow it to leave.

One, don't take anything you don't want to lose to South Africa. It's a real show at the moment and getting worse by the day. Just ask Aus.
Second, ITAR/EAR apply differently. This is a temporary export, to a known end user, i.e., YOU. The stated destination is SA. You are an individual, not a company. I wouldn't think twice about taking it with me.
