I was up there above Knox City and Benjamin and came across this lil' rascal. Not familiar with it at all. What kind of lizard?

Mountain Boomer.
Pretty common. They will run on their back two legs when trying to get away.

I was fishing on a private lake near Laredo. Those lizards were on the rocks. If you threw a lure up on the rocks they'd attack it!

Really cool!

If you get up close and "bob" your head they will think your challenging them. Try it! Lots of fun.

Growing up, we called them Mountain Boomers, although I have no idea why, since the Caprock is not close to mountains. Cool looking lizards and not small either.

You can't say "tarnation" it is racist towards people like Yosemite Sam and Bugs Bunny.

We almost caught one of those on a job near Balmorhea. It’s probably best that we didn’t.

They'll eat other lizards, small snakes and just about anything they can get in their mouths. When they bite they have a tendency to hang on (They have teeth), found that one out a few times as a kid. If you corner one they will come at you in that weird two legged run.

Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

I saw one of these for the first time on my place. The Turquoise color was so brilliant, my brain could not resister it, then it took off at lightning speed. Very cool lizards.

I can only think of Sergeant Schultz and what he would say.
