That's why the deer around my feeder get to mature. Hey Fulldraw55 that's another thing. The relaxation you get out of a chair like that really does you good, just don't stay out there so long that the family starts calling to check on you. lol...

Parents have 16 acres. We have taken a few deer over the years and plenty of hogs. We are in between 2 huge ranches and our neighbors dont hunt. In actuality, we probably hunt over 8 acres since the front area is the where the trailer home and pavillion is.

So you can get it done on small pieces of land, but you are also relying on what happens with your neighbors. If the 2 big ranches decide to put up high fences or sell parcels for home development, we are basically screwed at that end. I would say it depends on where that land is more than how much you have. 100 acres with no cover probably can't hold a candle to my parent's place.

Like my grandmother used to say, I do not want to own all the land in the world, just any that borders mine and she was not a greedy lady. I think she got along pretty well with herself.

I have a friend that just bought 10 acres. But the back fence line borders 65,000 acres of the Skyline Management Area.

Location and terrain! We have about 1 deer per 25 acres. Lots of open areas bordering us and mesquite so not ideal habitat unless you have 100's of acres. We have 1,100 acres but I only hunt 200 of it that holds the deer.

Often, the wild card is the neighbors. I’ve gotten into a dispute with a neighbor over his dogs running deer and horses on my property. I talked to him about it to no avail. Then one of his dogs was missing and he blamed me.

I didn’t do anything but certainly glad somebody did.

Now, he starts shooting on weekends during deer season. Crack of dawn for an hour and then starts again in the afternoon. All high powered rifle.

Bottom line is that neighbors matter.

Maybe this year he won't have enough ammo to harass you every day.

I hunt 30 acres in Harrison County. I am very low budget. No food plots. I have a tractor and bush hog but no disc. I run 2 feeders with plain ol corn and sometimes corn/soybean mix when i can get it. I am surrounded by deer leases and a cattle ranch that gets hunted. My property is thick but does have an old pipeline that runs through it. I will be building a cattle panel blind for rifle to put on the pipeline in a couple of weeks. My pop-ups don't hold up to the wind even staked down. I would like to set a pop up close to one of the feeders for bowhunting. I keep my fence rows mowed and I used to mow the pipeline twice but this year I decided I will only mow it once before season. Basically, I'm surrounded by heavy hunting pressure and when we go home to visit the kids ride the 4 wheeler. I don't want to be the bad guy and tell them can't ride.

I don't know what else to do to try and pull some deer in. Appreciate any advice.

I was on 40,000 + acres just this past weekend. We started out hunting on the West fence line. Geez . . . .

Hold on now....we are talking about owning land. Owning land, often times, on the right piece, less is more.


Just hunting? There, you can never have too much. Sometimes I wish the West Texas Lease, at 70k acres, was just a tad bit bigger.....

Mindsets can often be awkward

There's nothing worse than having a neighbor as an enemy for the rest of your life. I always try hard to be a good neighbor....keep myself and my animals on my property, don 't make noise during hunting season, help out a neighbor when they ask. It sure makes life more enjoyable than fighting with a neighbor for 30 years. This guy is an example.........lets his dogs run on other people's property.......most people know that if you let your dog run the woods at night they get killed by coyotes. Then he blames the neighbor and goes out of his way to make it worse. Life is too short for nonsense like that.
