With the half tons towing in their upper reaches of capacity setup is everything. My half ton ram with the soft coils handles weight like carp, I towed our 7500 pound travel trailer with it many times and a properly set up weight distribution system makes all the difference in the world, it handles it like a champ.

I’m sure tow vehicle weight means something but how much I don’t know. My 1/2 ton ram weighs 6000 pounds. A 2020 F250 crew cab 4x4 with the 6.2 weighs 6,400 pounds.

Don’t think that because you buy the 7.3 Godzilla that it is going to chug up mountains at 2000 rpm, it makes it’s power where it makes its power around 4000+rpm it’s gonna run there just like your tundra.

If what I read is correct, Toyota should have about 410 HP (plus or minus) and a towing capacity of maybe 13,000 pounds, or more, in the 2022 model. That’s short of what the Godzilla engined F250 can do (430 HP and 15,000 tow capacity?). And I’m expecting the new Tundra to have better mileage than mine (15 mpg), and a good bit better than the F250/Godzilla (13 to 14). So, sight unseen, I’m leaning toward a new Tundra and hoping it’ll meet my expectations.

Truth be told, I’m just wanting a new truck. I sure don’t need one, having 173,000 miles on a Tundra that should be good for 300,000 miles (says Toyota).

If I don’t spend some money, my kids will get it all. Where’s the fun in that?

Your estimate of the 7.3 mileage is low. I can get 12-14 with the Tremor package (factory 35” mud tires, 1.5” lift, and 4.3 greats). That is highway and running 65-85 MPH. From what I have read stock 4X4 can get 15-16.

Having said that, it will be a real disappointment if the new tundra is not 19-+20.

Also look closely at the F250 cab. I can put 2 scoped rifles under the back seat. Other than the F150, no other truck can do that, and makes the cab feel much more capable.

I wanted to buy a Tundra, but just could not based on how much more truck the F250 was and is. I hope Toyota gets it together and becomes competitive again. I love the reliability of their products, but they have to upgrade significantly.
