Water treatment, entry level . Pays 32-34 an hour. I'm currently 8 years into water and hold B license, working as a public works director, making about 30 now. I feel like I'm topped out in this state as far as what I want to do

Before you move up there do a very thorough and detailed comparison of the cost of living. Even though you will be making more, you might be loosing money in the long run. I believe it is about 35% higher than the national average.

I thought of that, and plan on it. My thoughts are though that if entry level pays more than 10% of what I'm making now, and I go maganement there i may be looking at a significant increase

32 to 34 won’t be much of a wage in Alaska. I’m not even sure you can find a place to live on 70k a year in Alaska.
It would be cool to live there if one can afford it.

Hate to say it, but Move to the messoplex, there are bound to openings with your experience, plus room for advancement.

I know where a Gordon is and yes it is "limited".

Don't want to do the metro mess. Worked for the city of Austin for 4 years, most I made there was mid 20's, and I department shuffled to get there

Not sure how accurate this is. But yeah 10% more isn't going to cover it, need to see what they pay their managers.

Or come on down to Houston area and get in petro Chem. It’s a good paying industry and is fairly resilient unlike oil patch. FYI a number of companies still offer pension + 401k. Most entry level operators make 100k with a high school diploma. If you served they look at those individuals as high potential candidates.

You can make it work. Just have to recognize there’ll be a lifestyle change, you won’t have all the stuff you have now. I did the same thing at your age but moved to Hawaii, with my wife and newborn. Didn’t know a soul, no place to live and no car. They offered me a job making what they’re offering you. Sold everything, got on a plane. stayed at the ymca until I found a small apartment up near the north shore, rode the bus to work and had a little island beater car. A lot of people told me it’d never happen, called me crazy or told me it’d never work. Don’t listen to those folks. Some of the best years of my life. A lot of surfing, spearfishing and fishing. Things most people will never get to do and memories that’ll last a lifetime. Made good friends that I still talk to regularly.

Don’t hesitate. Go for it.

Yep, closer to Russia than California. Also where deadliest catch is filmed

Only folks I knew that moved to Alaska lasted 2 winters and came back to Texas. And years ago I had a buddy that was in the Marines and stationed at Adak in the Aleutians. Said it was really cold in the winter.

And I’m with the others in thinking that 10% isn’t enough of an increase to keep you happy. I always figured that 30% was about the right number to change jobs, and you’ll need relocation expenses on top of that. And there’s medical coverage to consider.

Get a legal size pad of paper. Down one side make a list of all the positives from this move. List the negatives down the other side. Be honest.

I’d move for a stent just to have residence hunting privileges. If you move I wanna come up and go goat or sheep hunting with you.
