A fire that started earlier today is now over 4000 acres, with 0 containment. Near Ruidoso, Ski Apache, Capitan area. Supposedly started by an out of state camper. All outside fires are banned, this person in big trouble. .If you are headed to New Mexico, make sure you know the fire restrictions, some area have a no warning policy, if you break the rules, they will fine you.

Looks like a bad one.

Had a friend post pics from Lincoln. Not good.

Hopefully they will get it contained soon. Bad year for fires with the drought.

Wife and I just got back from there last week. We both made comments as to how dry it was as we drove the back roads. The area where the fire is one of the back roads we drove. Hope they get it out soon as the one they had a few years ago is still visible and ugly.

We have a good front coming in across the west, hoping it is dropping down that way too. Good snow amounts for the mountains and nice rain for lower elevations.

Yesterday evening the 3 Rivers Fire was 5% contained and had burned 12,000 acres.

Still ongoing.

12:45 p.m. update: Fire is still 12,000 acres and 5% contained.

The Type-1 Incident Management Team took command of the fire at 6 a.m.

"Crews have been divided into three divisions and will be focusing on constructing fire line on the south end of the fire, working their way to the east and north," a Lincoln National Forest update states. "The southeastern portion of the fire is in particularly rough terrain, making firefighter’s work even more challenging for every mile of fire line they build. Despite harsh conditions, this area remains a top priority because of the multiple values at risk ahead of the fire, including homes and Ski Apache."

The fire has crossed into Mescalero Apache Tribal Land and Mescalero and Lincoln National Forest are working together to battle the fire.
