Well, Texas has become reasonable, as you know. New Mexico and everybody in it is mask crazy, especially on the reservations. Get to Arizona and the mask rules relax a good bit - sort of like Texas. Now in Utah, and it appears to be pretty relaxed also. You can spot the Californians, because they glare at you when you don’t have a mask on. I just smile and say “howyadoin”?

Worthy of mention is that was hard to get food in New Mexico at a fast food joint. Lines, masks, and they won’t let you sit anywhere. If you are heading west from Texas, get a meal at the last opportunity in Texas and pack a sandwich to get you past New Mexico.

I went through New Mexico on Vacation 2 x last year during the height of the "pandemic" I had no issues and no dirty looks at any point and never wore a mask. It was annoying at one point to have to eat fast food outside on the sidewalk since the dining area was closed and I was on a motorcycle but that was it.

Ever notice that when a movie is supposedly set in Texas, and they need depressing, run down, dilapidated buildings and scenery, they shoot in New Mexico. (Hell or High Water comes to mind.) It's looked that way my whole life. They are their own worst enemy.

Speaking of that...I watched the movie Texas Rising recently. Where in the hell did they shoot this movie?? Um, there are no mountains where all of this took place. Doesn’t even remotely resemble the territory.

To get to the western CO area for mountain RV trails last summer we stopped at Dalhart and went from there to Trinidad, CO before stopping again. Easy.

I actually called a NM State Trooper number I found online. I asked if everything I had been hearing and reading about was true. She said everything was blown out of proportion and to come on. We still didn't need to stop.

Same experience here and I went to or through 3 times

I’m in Arizona right now and nobody is following any mask rules (whatever they may be). Other than seeing the signs it seems like things are optional out here for the most part.

https://www.zerohedge.com/political/not-even-gretchen-whitmer-wants-more-faucis-lockdowns

For example, let’s look at covid case numbers as of April 20. In Texas, the total new cases (seven-day moving average) on April 20 was 3,004. That comes out to approximately 103 per million. Now, let’s look at Michigan, where a variety of strict mask mandates and partial lockdowns continue. In Michigan, the seven-day moving average for new infections as of April 20 was nearly eight times worse than in Texas. It has also consistently been the case that many states with strict and long-lasting lockdowns—e.g., New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts—have fared the worst when it comes to covid cases and deaths. It’s easy to see this data and come away with a very plausible conclusion: lockdowns and covid deaths aren’t actually correlated very much at all.

Just got back from Ruidoso and it is mixed as to where you go. In town and at the casino's you will see them but in the small towns it is 50/50. Signs on doors say yes you have to wear them but out of town no one says anything if you don't.

The mask rules here in southern Utah aren’t too strict. Don’t have to wear them outside, and in about half the places we’ve been that weren’t restaurants, the staff aren’t wearing them.

I’m just guessing, but I have come to think that a lot of this mask wearing is starting to be questioned by the wearers.

Talked to a fellow yesterday that’s working in Israel. Says nobody wears a mask there.
