A lot. A whole lot. Contact an agent. I'm on Oscar. The wife just got on Medicare. Before that, it was Blue Cross Blue Shield, you know, the company that started this whole MESS decades ago. realmad You need to do the extensive math regarding retiring early. 'Just don't want you to get bit.

Pm me your zip code and dob and I can give you real tangible numbers. It won’t be as expensive as you think if your health is good. If you are looking at Aca and have any amount of income it could be pricey.

When I was getting ready to retire, the medical thing was my biggest concern. Luckily, the company I worked for allowed me to pay to stay on the company plan till I could get on Medicare. If not, I don’t know if I would have retired at 62.

When the OP gathers the info on his situation, it might be good for others nearing retirement to see what he found out.

As for being retired, I love it.

Go with a Health Sharing group, like Medishare.

Our monthly went from $1400 to less than $400. Had a $13000 ded and now have a $10,000 ded.

couple things I want to warn you about, in Texas there is no independent private health insurance plans OUTSIDE the ACA plans. There are cost share plans that can work if you are healthy, but the last company pulled out of the individual market a few years back and the only thing remaining is the ACA plans.

Why that is important is many doctors DO NOT ACCEPT ACA plans. They are frought with headache from the payer side and many docs just don't want the fuss. So be very careful as you look into plans. Many of the ACA plans will have coverage for docs that are new, or desperate for patients (and they are like that for a reason, hint hint).

If you can get into medicare early, do that, or stay on your group insurance as long as you can.

The reality with most of the silver or bronze level ACA plans is you end up paying a monthly premium that has a higher deducitible, so you feel sort of obligated to not use it due to everything being cash pay for the first 7-10K/annum. Its kind of a racket, the insurance companies made out great, but the coverages that are actually worth something are quite expensive.

TBE is correct. I had an ACA plan, but most doctors would actually see us with that plan. The doctor would show as in network, but that does not mean they will set an appointment.

We take ACA insurance plans at our office, but we are a sub specialty.

Medicare, then part of my retirement benefits, after I pay a small deductible. Dental and prescription benefits also.

Love. Retirement

I am considering moving from a company that has good health insurance to being a small business owner. I talked to a insurance agency, and they indicated ACA plans would be the cheapest. However, there were “short term” (I think the term he used) plans that were not ACA compliant. They seemed to be the way to go, if you can get them...no preexisting conditions whatsoever.

This is something that I need to get resolved. I definitely need decent catastrophic insurance. I would appreciate some advice.

I believe the trump admin did allow for some changes to the plans available, but i can say with certainty i had individual PPO insurance thru aetna initially, and they dropped their individual coverage and then i went to united, and they dropped their individual coverage, and at the time bcbs already was out of the individual market, left nothing but health share plans and ACA plans and we had a christian share plan 2 years (never used the share part but had plenty of medical bills, we considered it rude to use it for our small bills, it was more like a catastrophic plan for us) before my small business bit the bullet and got group coverage.

Problem is each state is different and you cant buy out of stare health insurance...makes sense right?

$1,100/mo just for me, it's insane. I was paying $400/mo the year Obamacare was passed. Thanks you low life scum sucking Democrats.

Heckuva deal! You're making out like a bandit. And remember - if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor.

I use an ACA plan as a catastrophic policy. I don't use it except for bloodwork and some prescriptions. We pay cash at our doctor. As a cash customer he bills us on his lowest pricing tier. We have paid cash for things like a MRI and CT scan when needed and were doing same sometimes even when I was on employer insurance. Some prescriptions we us things like good rx or a discount card obtained from the drug company. Vision and Dental I kept through my former employer. On my third year so far we have kept our total insurance and healthcare costs down to less than they were when I was working. I doubt that will last if we start having any serious health problems. I contributed as much as I could into an HSA account when I was eligible. Invested aggressively, I hold it as a way to help cover any future costly healthcare events.
