Anyone hunt in Val Verde near the hwy 277 and 377 intersection?

Looking at a lease down there and landowner is swearing the place was not affected by anthrax.

I'd be a little more trustworthy if he said they lost a few deer, but saying it was unaffected is throwing up red flags for me.

The place has everything we have been looking for as a group as we are trying to escape the greatly overpriced property we are currently on.

Will he give you references or past leasers names? Can you get the landowners name next door and politely check him out......

My neighbor has a ranch 15 miles NE of there. He didn't have anthrax.
I came off a lease 50 miles north of that intersection and it has hit hard.

Pretty sure this land hasn't been leased in years. There are almost no roads/trails, and no clearings for blinds/feeders. Very thick country that was only day hunted for auodad last year. Don't know the last time it was deer hunted.

We are trying to get past deer surveys and harvest logs but we only have a few days to inform our current landowner our intentions for next season.

Reached out to a biologist in the area and we were told the anthrax in that area was spotty. Affected some ranches and not others. I would think if it was spotty as described the recovery would be much quicker than in other areas that were wiped out.

We are about 20-25 miles NW of there off 277 and were only affected on one pasture on the very north end of our property.

Our rancher does lease a place just south of that intersection and did not really talk about having any issues. I will say we flew it 2 years ago and maybe just that place but saw more axis than whitetail at least that day.

We hunted on a place on north-east corner of intersection from 2000-2010. We never had any evidence during that time. Can’t say about last 10-15 years. Was good hunting with good deer

It may be unaffected. Anthrax is hit and miss a lot of times

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Most pastures in that general area was affected. Some around a 25% loss and some near a 100% like our place. The last number we heard from the biologist was 750,000 affected acres

I hunt Carta Valley near the 377 & 2523 intersection east of there, and we have had no issues.
