I’m not sure why the current owner is parting with this, he don’t need the money. Nevertheless, wow.

Write a check with a bunch of zeros. An epic collector's set, no doubt.

These firearms need to be in a museum, where everyone can view them, and be protected and cared for. What a shame it would be if some wealthy collector (perhaps even a non American) bought these and they were never seen again. Certainly a museum like the Smithsonian could generate the funds to buy them and display them. Selling them on the open market is just wrong. The owner should be compensated at the market value, but they should belong to us, the American people.

There is no "Market Value" on a set like this. As much as I would love to donate to a museum to be able to buy these, the best hope is a buyer who then "lends" it to a museum, as you see in the art world regularly. The Smithsonian doesn't have a couple million just laying around to purchase a single item like this. I HOPE they end up somewhere where the public can view them, but its unlikely.

That’s grand. Speaking anti-capitalism about guns belonging to a person who formed a capitalist state. Eminent domain, compensation at market value...seriously?

Btw, these guns were in a private collection and well cared for, probably the nicest private collection in the world. Now offered to whom ever.

Well said.

Thanks for sharing two beautiful pieces of history. When they guy said “these give you cold chills”...I had just got done showing my wife I couldn’t really explain it but they gave me goosebumps. That’s amazing, simply amazing...I wish they could actually talk, I bet they have some stories.

I'd sell those in a heartbeat if I could get what they're gonna go for.

Yes. Because Hamilton would have thought less of any man who wouldn't.

And these were bought in 1942 for $150 cash.

I'm guessing this set goes for between 2 and 5 million.

So if these are bought by a Saudi prince or a Japanese billionaire, never to be seen again, you're ok with that? That could easily happen. My point was at whatever the price ends up being, it would be great if funds could be raised from whatever source to keep these in this country and have them accessible for us to view. I have no problem with the high bid wins, but it would be great if the end result keeps them viewable. Nothing I said is “anti-capitalism”. Market value is what the auction will determine. Their worth is what someone is willing to pay. Public museums acquire priceless art frequently. Or the owner allows it to be displayed. That’s all I am hoping for. I’d rather see these than a painting.

Yeah I didn't see any anti-capitalism comments.

I think it's stupid that anyone would pay that much for something like this. I'd rather have a $5M vacation than these pistols - life is way more about the experiences you have than the stuff you have. I suppose if you have so much money it doesn't matter, then so be it. But if that's the case, why stop at $5M?

Wow, nice weapons and historical pieces. Why does Chase bank have the pistols Burr and Hamilton used in their famous duel? Investment?

Can't comment. Title of topic doesn't give me clues and my wife has the computer set for the kids so the link won't open. None of the other comments give me a clue what the video is about either except the one right before this. roflmao

"Selling them on the open market is just wrong."

Maybe capitalism doesn't mean what you think it means?

I read the sentence before (why doesn't the museum just buy them) and somehow missed that one. Still, I think he's just recommending to get with the museum and sell them at market value and just not risk them going somewhere anti-american. Not necessarily anti-capitalism so much as just trying to preserve american history while getting market value paid to the seller. I did miss that sentence though, and on its own, taken out of context, it is anti-capitalism.
