Thinking this may be the way to go for lodging and storage. I'm a decent framer so a simple finish out is all I'm planning. I've had some exposure to these, but never bought one. What I've learned is new is actually a one trip container and the few I've seen are great. Used, they're all over the place on condition. If I do it right this will be purchased abut 60 miles from the delivery location with good access.
For used, delivered, what should I expect to pay?

Every thing is really high right now. 40’HC 1 tripper $4500+
My advice on ones I've built. 24” centers on framing, insulation No less the R-20, weld in 14-11ga sq tubing frame or all openings(AC/Doors/windows)

Make sure you read up on “container sweat”. Need to find a good way to either vent, insulate, or absorb moisture. I have one used specifically for storage (not-insulated) and it sweats like crazy. The other, professionally converted to a cabin and using spray-on insulation, does not.
I think I paid $3K for the storage container which was a 1-trip with an entry door & solar vent installed.

If I could get a 40 foot onto my lease I would build one. No delivery driver wants to get within 2 miles of my camp, and I don’t have a trailer for a 40. 20 is too small and I don’t want to build two 20’s.
Lay the 2x4 with the wide side against the container, 24 inch spacing, none of the framing is weight bearing. Install electrical. Have it spray foamed. Find something affordable to use in place of Sheetrock or plywood on the walls, Sheetrock will crack if it’s moved after floating.

Be very carefully with spray in insulation, walls yes but roof make sure you don't plug any ventilation holes, I actually added more holes to my container. I just ordered extra of the shipping container vents and installed my self.
Container is already going to be very airtight, so think about airtight issues with carbon dioxide, I also installed bathroom exhaust fan in bathroom to pull moisture out, but also allow for more air flow in general.
Lowes 4x8 smart siding is a very easy to use and clean line product of interior walls and roof.

Used to buy a lot of them for storage at my work. 20's are still only about $3K, 40's are running $4-5K, and finding a good 53' will set you back about $6-8 right now. If you are going to use it for living quarters also, make sure you get the High-Cube version (9'6"). Adding another foot to the height doesn't seem like much, but when you are talking framing, insulation, wiring, ducting it makes a world of difference. Search for a non-standard 53' high-cube, and there is 50-60% more usable space than a 40 footer, and they can make a wonderful, secure cabin

My idea is to leave the first 10' or so as is to store my ride and frame up the last 10' for a small sleeping cabin. Other facilities are available so I won't need plumbing in it, just warm and dry for sleeping, changing clothes, etc. My plan is to frame up walls, tie them all together at the corners and with top plates as you would frame conventionally. Sorta' of a box within the container with an exterior door that has a window. I'd screw the bottom plates to the floor and not compromise the walls or roof of the container in any way. This is about as far as I've got thinking it through.

This is about as far as I've got thinking it through. I actually did same thing but 13’ of a 40’My advice pre run wires for two separate breakers in case you want to build it out in to a room later. I ended up turning my storage in to a bedroom last year.

Yes, my understanding is prices have increased significantly on them since I got mine. My only advice is to shop around. Sometimes the added price to deliver a little farther can be offset by a lower purchase price. So don't assume that just because a dealer is closest that the final bill will be less.

Told them where to drop the container and they would reverse several times until about 5’ of the container was hanging off the back of the trailer. Then place that 5’ on the ground and pull out from underneath. The drivers were amazing at it....had the entire camp there watching.

The down side is the lack of mobility for the average hunter.
The upside, they have none of the negative issues associated with a travel trailer. For me that list is long. The lease has plumbing and electricity, with a pretty nice cooking cabin. To finish out 10' is pretty easy. When you consider the fact that all you have to do is build four walls and a ceiling, and your inside build doesn't require a weather tight exterior, I see a lot of benefits to this lodging/storage option. I'm still looking, may have found one.

I guy told me just yesterday that he put axles under one and could haul it around. Havent seen a pic yet.

Been trying to find a 40’ HC in ETX (MT Pleasant is nearest town). I’m having trouble sorting through all the spammers/scammers to find someone local. Anyone have someone out this way that they recommend?
