Vertical band saw to cut the aluminum.
4 1/2" angle grinder with cut off wheel to score, to bend.
Bench grinder/sander to sand.
Polishing wheel on the gauge plate.
Ruler and scratch awl to inscribe the lines.
Metal stamp for the numbers.

Oh heck yeah!
Did you file the patent yet?

Where do I send my order?
I would prolly want 6 to 7" marked though.

I could get a taller 'jar' from cutting the top off of a wine bottle;
I have an endless supply of those free courtesy of the Mrs! grin
First in or two would need to be 'calibrated' though, due to dimple on bottom.

Epoxy to level the bottom..... cheers

Lots of tall narrow whiskey bottles out there too....

Really like the idea!

Seems like you'd want to lower the mounting bracket so as to not block any blowing rain? All the gauges I have seen the mouth of the jar is open air. Maybe? I don't know.

Regardless, it's cool looking.

There's lots of wine bottles that don't have the dimple! Scrounge around in the bargain wine area while your Mrs. shops for her special wines.

Anyone remember the Alka-Seltzer bottles ? They made a good rain gauge.

What’s the point of a rain gauge? To talk about the weather at the cafe?

This month, had I known how much we just got, I would have a better idea of when the ground is probably dry enough to get out and get the first hay cutting.

I'm the future, I'll know if some of the trees I planted probably need watering, and how much water to give the garden.

I thought things like this are why rain gauges were invented.

Is it accurate? Rain gauge inch measurements are determined by the size of the opening vs diameter of the body.

For reference, this is a 25 inch tall rain gauge

As far as I could gather, that one has a funnel, thus the reasoning for the measurements being spread out. Opening the same size as the bottom, measurements stay true. Again, as far as what I read.

Yep as long as the opening is the same size of the tube should be good to go.

I like it, my plastic one at the house also split in the big freeze.

I have a plastic one like pictured above except yellow where we are building it too froze but survived without splitting.

Last plastic rain gauged I had dry rotted in the drought.

Like the glass ones good job Jason. That also will give you a good indication of the amount of water your storage system got in a rain

1" should be about 3780 gallons coming off the shop roof.

They were overflowing on Saturday. That happens quite frequently, even with us using water like normal. I dare say my capacity is "over-built". But, if we go through a drought, I'll be glad I have as many tanks as I do. It will have to quit raining for 5 months straight to run us out of water.

I’ve had one like this at the house and the farm for the last 5 years. I haven’t had to change them out yet. I guess after 10 years they may need changing. I don’t think that will make me that tiired.
