I took some measurements of my AR-308 7-08 chamber and came up with an average length of 2.277. I then measured some loaded rounds and got 2.282. I’m having trouble understanding how I was touching the lands when the COAL for those was all under 2.800. I guess this is why this rifle has a tendency to show pressure signs. I’m going to set the CBTO at 2.257 to start.

COAL being 2.800" and your touching the lands, and you're confused? Why?

Because a publication says 2.800 is maximum COAL for a SAAMI 7mm-08?

Whomever chambered your rifle did not get that memo.

The books mean nothing when it comes to CBTO and COAL. Only the chamber you are loading for matters.

Got it. All the test rounds for this week are set to 2.257 so at least they’ll all be consistent. I had some promising results from N140 and Big Game a couple of weeks ago.
