Looking for references on the deer hunting at the Mariposa Ranch near Falfuria. Thank-you for your help

Not sure about the deer, but it’s usually a good place for quail.

They have very impressive deer. Been several times for nilgai and it’s very apparent their management program is dialed in and working

The Mariposa has been well known for their deer for a long time. Lots of really nice bucks have been taken there.

Their web sight says they have, “THE BEST ENGLISH POINTERS IN THE WORLD.” That statement would make me leery.

The Mariposa is a good ranch. Great Quail Country. Brooks county is some of the best in the United States.

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

The Mariposa has had a reputation as a premier hunting operation for as long as I can remember. It is located in ideal south Texas quail and deer country. Would suprise me if they didn't have some of the finest wildbird dogs around. Rick Smith guided there for many years.

Yessr. Back in the day I had several VHS bow hunting video tapes from the Mariposa, I would watch them over and over again lol. No frills, no commercials for product sales, nothing but solid bow hunting and lots of BIG deer.

They are top notch and first class on everything. Truth be told they could never sell a hunt and they’d be just fine. They don’t go cheap on anything. So, if they claim something based on experience id give that operation the benefit of the doubt.

If I was paying the fee to quail hunt there, I wouldn’t accept anything less than the best.

They didn’t say they had some of the best bird dogs in the world. They said they had THE best. The world is a big place. I think they oversold it. I wonder if a man could run his dogs with their best and bet on the most finds double or nothing on their home ground? I’ll bet they’d take the bet and probably win. I think I hunted behind the two best wild bird dogs in the world 20 years ago and they weren’t mine. They belonged to an old man in Fisher county. I’d have to see to believe.

I went pig hunting there in the 80’s. Great place then. If memory is correct, the place had a stone hot tub or pool fed by a hot spring. That was nice after a day hunting.

Lighten up, Nancy.

For sure they can't have the best dogs. I do. As well as the best ranch, best and prettiest wife, nicest pickup, and best kids in the world. grin

If you don't think what you have to offer is the best, then you don't think much of yourself. wink

There deer hunting is very different for a ranch that size in that area.

This past season was the first time they established a 4 1/2 or older rule on bucks, before you could shoot basically anything.

You dont have guides, unless your riding around in the truck, you get dropped off at a blind and get picked up.

You can not corn any roads or bring any corn with you, the only corn they allow is what comes out of the corn feeders at each blind

Once you shoot your buck, they are not scored or any records like that are not taken or kept by the ranch

Alot of the larger neighbors are high fenced along their fenceline

Its basically unmanaged and what ever walks out and what ever mother nature creates is what you get.

I really like the lodge there and the guides where awesome on our nilgai hunt. The deer hunting is very laid back, especially when compared to across their fence.

Finding mature bulls was slow the first day and half, it was after the freeze and we came upon a few dead mature bulls. We went into a different pasture the last hour of our hunt and saw more mature bulls then we had the entire 2 days before. I think if we had hunted that pasture first, we could have gotten our bulls. But I took somebody special on the hunt and the main goal was to get them a bull, which we did, so that was all that really mattered to me. There was another group quail hunting that pasture so thats why we weren't in there earlier.

It was a very easy going, laid back hunt, and I really liked our guide. I will be back and encourage others do book with them if possible.
