Found his drops. Hope he puts on some more mass. So take him this coming season or let him continue spreading his genes?

If he’s old enough and big enough for you I would hunt him. Just my opinion, but I dont count on em spreading any genes that you can count on. Great looking buck. What do you think on age and score?

If he outscores my best he’s on the possible list as long as he’s in mature range.

Tomorrows not guaranteed for anyone. I'd take that deer this coming season if it were me.

As far as spreading the genes thing, as FR mentioned it isnt reliable and there is no way to even know if he will sire any fawns at this point. So to not shoot him for that reason on a typical low fence property just doesn’t make much sense.
The decision to shoot or not shoot is totally up to you depending on what you are looking for. He may have had his best year last year or maybe he gets bigger, only way to know is to let him go but its a risk someone else or something else kills him first, and the chances of the latter happening go way up every passing year.
But please don’t come on here and ask for our permission....you don’t need it and you certainly dont need our approval for a deer you like. Bottom line, if you like him, shoot him, and be happy about it

Everyone is different...as is the neighbor situation. I’d pass personally another year or 3 but he’s a brute either way. Good luck!

You know what else is running around your place. Since he’s mature if you want him take him.....

A bird in the hand is better than that bird dead on the neighbor's side of the fence next year.

Had one similar to that a few years back we passed on. The next year, he buggered up one side of his antlers to the point no one wanted to harvest. Never saw him again.

Depends on what YOUR objectives are for you personally and for your ranch. If you own the ranch you might have a certain set of criteria for your deer - if your in a lease situation it may be a different scenario totally. If your HF vs a small low fence pasture it just depends...... Was it a wet year last year where you hunt or dry? Do you feed (protein, cottonseed, alfalfa, etc,?) anything? How much pressure from your group? We've had bucks be good at 6, go way down at 7, rebound at 8 and kill them at 9 so... Lots of things to ponder... I don't want to be Debbie downer as I could go on and on however there are a lot of factors to consider....
Me personally I almost always err on the side of I wonder what he might look like next year and then I start asking myself all the above questions and try to answer them honestly. If your happy with the answer and what your heart tells you pull the trigger and don't look back and enjoy the moment!!!!

On my place, we have multiple small property owners surrounding us, and most of the up and comers that we see at the beginning of the season have disappeared by the end of the season for the last few years. There have been many Bucks that I have passed, wanting to see what they look like next year...only to have them disappear forever. With that said, I would shoot that buck in a heartbeat.
