It's become a constant battle not being duped by online thugs. One of the tactics I've noticed recently plays on the fact that online purchases have become so commonplace. As a result, there's a good chance a blind text message will hit someone who is expecting delivery of something they ordered online. And with porch pirates being so active at the same time, I can see where people might click on links in text messages thinking it will somehow ensure safe delivery of whatever they're expecting to arrive on their doorstep.

Makes sense, usually you only get texts if you opt in to receive them, but some people may not know that.

Scammers suck. I got an email Weds. morning from a friend asking for a favor. I replied and asked what he needed. He said he could not find a Google Play card locally or online and needed to get one for nieces bday. So I look at Wal Mart.com and don't see a problem. I replied back and said that I don't understand. He said they declined his card. I said call the bank. He replied and said he was having problems with card. This guy is very well off so something is wrong here. Also I am not aware he has a niece and if he does she would be in 40s. I get suspicious and text him. His email account had been hacked. Common scam aimed at old folks. It would not have been the $300 for the card that hurt as much as when they got my bank info for reimbursement.

Some of it depends on your email server.

Here was my completely professional reply to the last one sent to my wife's phone. Short, sweet, and to the point. It made me feel better and that's all that matters.

A Democracy is when two wolves and a lamb vote on the dinner menu. That is why this country was specifically not designed as a Democracy. We are a Constitutional Republic.

this guy takes over their computers & networks and 'owns' them:
