Clearly it has been done for hundreds of years. I suspect forging followed by a whole lot of file work.
I just wonder if anyone here has tackled it.

I've never had a reason to.. they are pretty cheap at any hardware store.

I have enough hard time putting a saw back on a knife spine, I can't imagine making a complete saw.. I guess that's how they did it back in the day.

I ask for curiosity sake. It has clearly been done for centuries. In the event of the store not being available, the internet not being available, and delivery not being available.
My thinking is a jig like a vise, with channels cut on both sides to maintain the proper angles for the file. Is that how you put a saw back on a knife spine?

I actually have an antique jig for that somewhere. I bought it up in Kansas the best that I remember. I didn't buy it to use, I just thought it was neat.
