Does look like elm, but not Cedar Elm. The Cedar Elm I had (still have, though it’s relocated) didn’t smell too bad when burned in the fireplace. Not great, but not bad. Some other Elms, like Winged Elm, in my experience did have an unpleasant odor when burned. So...burn some and see.

Whatever it is, there isn't much left on the ground from the tree compared to the oak they left behind. I guess I'll dodge it and leaving it laying.
Thanks for the help.

That’s 100% ELM and that’s a complete trash tree IMO. The only good thing for that tree is it’s fairly soft and shreds really well

Not good for cooking, but if it was already cut up I would have no problem adding it to my campfire/firepit pile. Otherwise if it needs cutting/splitting, I would leave it for someone else. It's not worth the wear on the chainsaw blade.

Looks like cedar elm to me.
I have burned cord after cord of it in a fire place/campfire and cooked I dont know how many pounds of bbq on it with no complaints. Not my first pick by a long shot, but especially for fire place and campfire wood it splits easy and is considered a hardwood.

Every tree I cut down or limb gets bucked for firewood. My cooking wood has to come from landowners that will let me cut down their mesquite.
