Anyone have any problems shooting steel case ammo? I'm hoping to share ammo between my AK and new AR.
Haha yea I polished that thing for hours.

I never had any problems with steel case ammo but the problem is that nobody makes a decent 7.62x39 AR magazine. Eventually got rid of the AR and just bought a Arsenal SLR107 and never looked back.

Any AR can feed any steel case ammo (some say use it for steel only or brass only) but the problem with 7.62X39 in the AR is the magazine. ASC metal ones are the best in my opinion but the case is short and fat with a lot of taper hence the curvature of the magazines needed to feed the round. Here is my solution to poor feeding of 7.62X39 in the AR platform.
Pass the gravy.

I have built three x39 uppers, two for me and one for a friend. I use ASC mags and have never had trouble out of any of them with steel or brass. I also will pull down steel ammo and replace the bi-metal bullets with 123 gr. SSTs. They also feed well. Some people have had problems with the "AR-47", fortunately I have not. I say give it a whirl and see how it works out for your particular rifle.

I run asc mags in my ar with no problems. Bought the upper from a forum member and have no issues with feeding since I polished the feed ramps. Probably put 200 round thru it this weekend and had zero issues feeding. Primer strikes were my problem and i have the enhanced firing pin. Getting dirty may have had something to do with it, that russian crap is dirty especially suppressed.

ASC mags feed fine. I don't load them all the way to the top though, I leave a little room. I'm shooting cheap Russian soft points, and it's pretty dirty, but shoots accurately. I just run my bore snake through after firing a few rounds.

That was the appeal of an AR in the same cartridge. They can share cheap ammo.

If I were to shoot x39 it would be an AK. Yep, it's like it was made for it.

Built me a PSA AR-47 three years ago. Only use ASC mags. Not had one single issue. It is accurate and fun to shoot.
It's not what you say, or think, that counts. It is what you DO!

My rifle prefers Hornady SST which is steel cased.
Stoner, ASC, and C-Products have all worked fine.
