I know a lot of folks make the traps without a bottom, but wouldn't the bottom make this issue a non-starter?

Have a hard time seeing a hog tip toe around enough to make progress with a trap.

But I have no experience trapping hogs, so I don't know for sure.

I cut the bottom out. Some folks think adult pigs are wary of the floor, and I think they're right. Cut the top out to avoid catching deer. Large, corral trap is the only way to go, and that's what I'm working on perfecting.

Had the trap like yours with bottom, can always throw dirt ta hide floor..
Had some luck, always blended it in with brush, corn leading in...
then seen the video's of 🦌 deer caught in traps...

I've been trapping pigs a long time and still run several box traps with bottoms in them, I've never had any issue catching adult pigs in them. Just have to feed the trap every chance you get so they'll get used to it. But I've heard that too.

Yeh, you've gotta stake them down good LOL. Same thing has happened to me. What I've learned that works well for staking down box traps is two T Posts (one on each opposite corner) for traps with a bottom, and a T Post on all four corners on a trap with no bottom. They ain't moving/getting out of that unless they blow a whole in the trap (big boar once ripped the whole corner out of one of my box traps, broke the welds).

Corral traps are the way to go. What kind of gate & tripping mechanism are you planning on using?

All my traps but one have bottoms and are staked with T-posts. The one trap without a bottom is a corral-type with a self-trapping door arrangement. I'll get 8-10 at a time in the corral, but only a couple of times a year. The smaller traps, with bottoms, produce all year long, but only 3-4 piggies at a time.

With my limited carpentry skills, not to mention my distaste for almost everything in Alabama, I'm going to follow a youtube video from the Alabama Fish & Game department on a simple, wood guillotine door, with my own idea on the trigger. (I need instructions. The other day I was cutting two boards in half, both the same length, to block some archery windows in a blind. I have retained how to mark a board and use a square. One board is an inch longer than it's mate. I didn't focus on the number on the tape measure. Yeah...it's that bad.)

Self-trapping door. I have had very little success, as in 1 pig, with a tines-hanging down arrangement that Ramball36 on here came up with. Plus, the panels are way too short. ('Bought the panels to overlay it yesterday.) Are you using the "6" type thing? Do pigs really push in a panel and go in? I need to come up there and learn. I can do some limited work you know, even though I'm over 60.

My self trapping door is merely a regular latching gate to which I attach a small hog log. I put piles of corn around the inside of the corral, or use my feeder to distribute corn; I leave the gate open just far enough to allow the guests to enter. The will rush in, start sucking up the piles of corn while some of the sounder locks on to the hog log. As they root around on it, they push the gate closed and it latches shut with them and any of their buddies locked inside. No need for you to work; you're welcome to come up and see the set-up, or I'll take some pics and post them for you.

Had a hog trap with a metal mesh bottom that was heavily baited, had a hog actually push it far enough to where it could eat all of the bait that was inside
