Cathy went to the University of Texas law school. She generally drives up to visit old friends.. Her choice of lunch out are the Downtown food trucks. Do you ever?

Yeah both of change A LOT over the past two decades. Some of the best food I've had has come from a food truck.

Yeah there are the roach coaches but the new ones you see are extremely clean and they like to charge brick and mortar prices. A lot of new restaurants start as a food truck before making it big enough to open a brick and mortar.

I like food truck food, but not food truck prices. They don't charge brick and mortar prices, they charge more.

That said, my last encounter was a food truck that took macaroni and cheese, bbq brisket, and wrapped it into a burrito sized egg roll and fried it. OH YAH.

I agree completely on the prices. It costs more to eat from a food truck than an actual sit down restaurant with comparable food quality. That means waiting outside in potentially hot/cold/rainy/windy weather, usually not any tables to actually eat at, getting served in cheap boat trays or foil instead of an actual plate, terrible quality napkins, usually smaller portions, and sometimes highly questionable sanitary practices. And they still expect you to tip 20% + on the checkout screens despite the fact you are not getting any sort of wait service. I am a huge supporter of independent restaurateurs, but I'm pretty much out on food trucks unless it's out of necessity.

We have our favorites, one of the food trucks bought a lot and settheir truck on it. Bitchy neighbors hate them, but the food is GREAT, we stop there at least twice a week. I have survived 1000s of Allsups burritos, these are like dessert compared to Allsups. The city/county health department also keeps close tabs on the food trucks. There are also some great ones in San Angelo.

Man, what the heck food trucks have yall been going to!

The ones I go to are not only delicious but serve large portions, are clean, and are cheap. A lot cheaper than restaurants and they don’t expect tips. There’s always a jug or jar there if you wanna tip.

These are all Messican food trucks though, many don’t speak any English but the food is on point.

Food trucks of today are far beyond what they were 30 years ago. Much better now.
Not that I complained about the old "roach coaches" but when the bigger trucks started showing up on jobsites, I did quit eating from the little ones. Now they are everywhere and most are very good. I've even been to a wedding catered by a food truck.

Valentina’s BBQ is still served out of a trailer and is a Texas Monthly top BBQ spot. Torchy’s also started in a truck IIRC.

Hipster food trucks.....all the rage in the cities. People follow them on instagram to get the location for the day...menu, etc. Not my style. As others have said; way overpriced.
