Hi y'all, I'm new to the site and am looking forward to learning from everyone.

I've never been hunting but wanted to dip my toe into the waters by going to one of the various state WMAs in Texas to hunt squirrel. However they all seem to have means restrictions on what you can use to take the game, and 22 lr is never in the options. I have a 22lr but not a shotgun. Why is it not permitted to use a 22lr for small game in these WMAs?

welcome To your question - because a 22 bullet can go a long way, especially shooting at a squirrel up in a tree. A shotgun is much safer to use, especially when there’s a good chance others may be hunting near you.

You can find good deals on 20ga, 28, and 410 entry/mid range shotguns(auto and O/u)

TriStar and yildiz are a good place to start

Donate to TX Youth hunting program.... better to donate then to waste it in taxes

Buy your self an inexpensive single shot, shot gun.

Might even ask here in the Classified if someone will sell you cheap.

We picked up a single shot 410 for the vermin and it does wonders. You might invest some time looking for a used one that you should be able to find inexpensively. The cost of the shells will end up hurting more than the gun til all this silliness straightens out....
