The dog dream thread reminded me of something. When I was 10 or 11 our Baptist preacher told our Sunday school class that we died we would never see our dogs again when we died as dogs had no soul. I called BS on him and was labeled a trouble maker. There is no doubt in my mind that dogs have souls. Yes, I'll even throw cats in here too. You can tell from their tail wagging and the raised hair on their backs. Emotion = soul to me. My stupid ex wife told that same BS to my children when they were young kids...... they still bring it up today.

Adrian Rogers preached a sermon that covered this topic somewhat, i believe it is titled the 'Bible and Animal Rights'.

Lot of Godly folks so sure they are making it to heaven to see their dog who may or may not be there. I sure hope I make it but I have my doubts. After reading and posting here I think many are over confident.

If dogs make it, how about the whitetails I have harvested. They might not be to happy about the antlers I have on the wall...

God created all animals and humans, therefore they are in God's hands. That's my belief. Agreed

They do not have souls. Sorry. Does not mean that dogs will not be in heaven. Many animals may be. But only humans have souls. That is the way God set it up.

I don't know if dogs have souls but I like to think my dog will be in heaven with me. Here's what Billy Graham said about the subject.
"I think God will have prepared everything for our perfect happiness. If it takes my dog being there (in Heaven), I believe he'll be there."
— Rev. Billy Graham
That's good enough for me.
In the end, it's not the years in your life that count, it's the life in your years.

Again, the short answer is no, animals do not have souls. However, there is much more to the idea if one wishes to have a deeper understanding of the God established relationship between man and animals.
Humans were created in the image of God. Animals were created by God. Humans have a body, soul, and spirit. Which make us trichotomous. We have the physical, a soul, and a spirit. Our soul gives us the outer connection to God. Our spirit is our direct connection to God. This also gives us our sense of right and wrong. Hence a need for a savior.
Animals are dichotomous. They have the physical and do have a level of consciousness, which many associate with a soul of sorts. They do not have free will but rather follow the natural instincts which dictate their actions. The lion does not weep for the gazelle. Animals have no sense of “right” and “wrong,” humans do.
The Bible sets out a specific connection between man and animals. Man has dominion over animals. They allow us to survive, prosper, and benefit us in many ways. Humans have a responsibility to be good stewards and provide and take care of animals. All of God’s works and plans are a beautiful natural perfection.
Because dogs do not have souls they will not go to heaven. Again, animals may be in heaven, God created the animals and said they were good; but our actual beloved pets, probably not, but who knows. All things are possible with God. Ecclesiastes talks about the physical body of both humans and animals. Basically saying all of our physical bodies shall return to dust.
This is about as brief as I can discuss this. Ha. As with most things if you desire to believe that animals have souls you can find articles that delve into interpretations of certain words and you can find whichever you desire to believe. Or you could convert to Hinduism and have no worries.
Lastly, either way you believe, there is nothing like the pure relationship of a dog. It is easy to see why many people want to believe their best bud will be there in heaven waiting and wagging that tail.

Don't get me wrong I loved each and every one of my pups, but there are a couple reasons they were domesticated in the first place. And I hope we never see one of those reasons again. How to tell man's best friend: Lock your wife and your dog up in the trunk of the car for about an hour. When you let um out which one do you think will be glad to see you...

A man and his dog were walking along a road. The man was enjoying the scenery, when it suddenly occurred to him that he was dead. He remembered dying, and that the dog walking beside him had been dead for years. He wondered where the road was leading them.
After a while, they came to a high, white stone wall along one side of the road. It looked like fine marble. At the top of a long hill, it was broken by a tall arch that glowed in the sunlight.
When he was standing before it he saw a magnificent gate in the arch that looked like mother-of-pearl, and the street that led to the gate looked like pure gold. He and the dog walked toward the gate, and as he got closer, he saw a man at a desk behind the gate.
When he was close enough, he called out, "Excuse me, where are we?"
"This is Heaven, sir," the man answered.
"Wow! Would you happen to have some water?" the man asked.
"Of course, sir. Come right in, and I'll have some ice water brought right up."
The man gestured, and the gate began to open.
"Can my friend," gesturing toward his dog, "come in, too?" the traveler asked.
"I'm sorry, sir, but we don't allow pets."
The man thought a moment and then turned back toward the road and continued the way he had been going with his dog.
After another long walk, and at the top of another long hill, he came to a dirt road leading through a farm gate that looked as if it had never been closed. There was no fence.
As he approached the gate, he saw a man inside, leaning against a tree and reading a book.
"Excuse me!" he called to the man. "Do you have any water?"
"Yeah, sure, there's a pump over there, come on in."
"How about my friend here?" the traveler gestured to the dog.
"There should be a bowl by the pump."
They went through the gate, and sure enough, there was an old-fashioned hand pump with a bowl beside it.
The traveler filled the water bowl and took a long drink himself, then he gave some to the dog.
When they were full, he and the dog walked back toward the man who was standing by the tree.
"What do you call this place?" the traveler asked.
"This is Heaven," he answered.
"Well, that's confusing," the traveler said. "The man down the road said that was Heaven, too."
"Oh, you mean the place with the gold street and pearly gates? Nope. That's hell."
"Doesn't it make you mad for them to use your name like that?"
"No, we're just happy that they screen out the folks who would leave their best friends behind."
When he was young, I told Dale Jr. that hunting and racing are a lot alike. Holding that steering wheel and holding that rifle both mean you better be responsible. Dale Earnhardt

That's good enough for me. I'm going with this. ^^^^^ If heaven is what they say it is, Bird dogs and quail hunting will no doubt be there.
Haven't had it in years but never spit any out. I am a sucker for happy endings and strapped cowboys.

Depends on how you define 'soul'. Sure, they have life just as we do, and plants also - in that sense, they have a soul - But like Sniper said above, their soul is not like ours, they don't have a spirit, so can't have eternal life. Also, they are a possession, not an equal - ponder on that a bit.

What he said. If they do, we're going to have to answer to killing all those deer.
