I have an older Toyota Corolla that I loaned to friend and it came back pretty beat up and not running. It wasn't worth much when I loaned it out and I had collected on hail damage so no great loss. What's the best way to get rid of it? Do I rent a tow bar from U Haul and tow it to a salvage yard? Any idea how much I should expect? Is the scrap price good or bad now? What about those donate running or not programs? I've never had one I couldn't trade or sell.

Craigslist. Someone will come get it today. Call it $100.


Salvage yard requires a title, you have to get it there, you will get $200-300 for it. Unless prices are way up or down. I haven’t been following that market lately.

Get it running, take it to a seedy part of town and leave the key in it. Works every time. And if you have any dead bodies, put one in the trunk.

My brother sent a suburban off to cars for kids. They came and got it, wrote him a receipt for his taxes, and that was that. Easy.

First, do you have a title or bill of sale? That makes it a whole lot easier to get rid of. A friend runs an auto salvage yard, and they are paying $120/ton for more modern vehicles with lots of plastic, and $150/ton for older steel cars and trucks. They will pick it up in your yard. There is a chance that your local high school would want it for an auto shop class project. Ours here do two a year per school, and at the end of the year they auction them off and proceeds pay the bills and profits go to a charity.

I have the title and would want to transfer it. I don't want any potential liability just in case someone got it running.

pull the tags. sold one here and forgot to pull the tags. I got months of tolls and chasing down the guy I sold it to.

I saved scrap iron during the big war but gave it up after my daddy came home.

Salvage yard will give you a couple of hundred. You don't need to tow it, they'll pick it up running or not.
