The pipe that is my spillway has collapsed. I am trying to get it fixed but that is not
going to happen soon because of so much rain they can't get equipment to the
pond to do anything at all. the water level is up to the road on top of the dam.
I cannot get the water level lowered enough to find where it is leaking from. is there
anyway to stop or temporally stop the leak from the non water side?

I have used 4 and 6" pvc to make a syphon to drain a couple of lakes, not cheap but works.

I dont know how big the pond is, but like Hop said a pvc siphon or a gas trash pump came to mind.

I used a 4" gas trash pump on Saturday. They said 30,000 gallons per hour. Ran for 8 hours, pond went down 1 inch.
I guess I will try the 4" siphon thing and see what happens. I tried it with 1-1/2 inch pvc pipe because that is what I had
on hand. I could not get it to work.

At 30K gallons an hour it should drop an acre pond over an inch in 1 hour. Must be a pretty decent sized pond.

A siphon will work to lower it to work on the overflow but if your trying to protect it from washing out the dam entirely then that’s going to be like throwing spitballs to kill a Cape buffalo. Does the pond have an emergency spillway built into it? If not then I would without question have them add one while their working on it, I can’t tell you how many dam’s we’ve had to rebuild from the lack of an emergency spillway built in on one end of the dam. If it’s larger than a couple acres in size and gets very much run off at all it’s money well spent in the long run and it doesn’t cost much with a pond that’s already built, simply some finishing work really and we put the extra dirt on the back side of the dam. Ponds are all just itching to self destruct and I’d guess we have repaired over 200 over the years so it’s not my first rodeo. 99% of all pond issues could have been eliminated by simply having an emergency spillway in case just like yours where the overflow pipe had an issue or simply a very serious overwhelming rainfall. I have no idea of your pond set up but you don’t want any trees on the damn either so if you have any I’d remove them while they had the equipment down their.
If you have any questions shoot me a pm,

We drained ours and used something similar such as this. We came back and planted rye grass in there.

No emergency spillway. I was told it is about 2 acres in size, but very hard to tell as it snakes around tree lines and is full of reeds.
I may be sending you a message if I can't get this figured out.

2 things
Pay attention to what Thumper says
Start a siphon ASAP or sooner. Spring rains should be coming soon.

If you can get it back below the overflow, look into SoillFloc. I've seen some good results with it.

12 inches. but it collapsed. I've got a 4" pipe siphoning now.
I know that's not much, but it was what I could get done.
And of course, its raining.

I have a 15" galvanized culvert and 18 wheel trucks have driven over it without any problems delivering me some rock.
