I dropped by my local Walmart this morning to pick up something for the wife and couldn't help but notice the group of guys hanging around one of the checkout lanes near the self-help registers. At first I thought to myself that perhaps Walmart has started bringing all their new ammo to the front of the store. I decided to ask the guy working the self-help what was up with all the guys standing over there whacking away on their cell phones. He said they're all waiting for the vendor to show up with new sports trading cards. As the case with ammo, he said it will all be gone in a matter of minutes, which some guys buying several cases.

Apparently, COVID has created a shortage of sports trading cards.

I expect that the sports card companies are in the same boat as tons of other production outfits; it's hard to attract employees that will make you $$ whenever you're competing with govt. stimulus and unemployment paychecks...

Saw a report on the news about the card activity increasing due to the lock down. May have spurred more.

And as the story goes, first there was a shortage of toilet paper, now there is a shortage of sports cards.

I have a boat load.....never gone through them. Do not really want to either.

I do have a couple of complete sets in binders, but my mom gave me those before she passed.

When I go camping I grab a handful and use them as tinder to get my fire started.

Cards are making a huge comeback right now. I have a giant collection in my attic I should probably get down and sell.

Yes they are. Not sure why and I don’t really care for them, but a place I buy coins from had a ton of them not long ago. All old boxes from several decades ago. I bought several cases of unopened boxes. I simply sealed them and packed them and stored them. My son can open them and deal with them after I am gone. Maybe there will be some good ones in there for him.

Same, I use to buy a pack everyday after school with leftover lunch money. I have complete sets and thousands of random old cards in shoe boxes stored in my attic.

Not sure why I held onto them other than memories.

My wife went by Walmart yesterday and saw these guys, she asked what they were doing.
It was before 4:00 and they were waiting (all night) for trading cards to be put out this morning.
