So I’m kind of in the market for a cowboy action 22 lr or mag pistol. Who here has experience with one or both of these pistols? I like the cerakote finish on the ruger for a pistol to throw on the four wheeler and go, but like the option to have a 22 mag cylinder with the heritage.

I feel like the ruger is probably a better built pistol but I don’t know. Any thoughts or opinions are appreciated.

Also not a fan of the safety on the heritage

I own a Heritage model and from the looks of the Ruger I would easily say it's better quality. However, the Heritage would be my first choice for something you expect to take a beating, like something that will get tossed about in the tool box on your UTV. If you're going to treat with greater care because it cost more, I would go with the Ruger.

IMO, if you want to hit anything, Save a little bit more $$ and get the Ruger Single Six Convertible . Adjustable sights (so you can hit stuff further than 10 yards) It Comes with both cylinders L.R. and MAG.

If $$ is tight, I would go with the Ruger just MO

I have experience with both. IMO, DON'T buy the Heritage. They are junk. Have several of them in my family, bought back when Academy was running sales on them. Had several misfires while shooting them, way too much play in the action. I would go Ruger.

Now if you really want a good shooting work horse 22 revolver (double action), I highly recommend the old High Standard Double 9 with 6" barrel (fixed sights). I have 2 of them and they just flat out shoot. Get them dirty/muddy/wet working at the ranch, and they never fail. Spray down with Corrosion X, wipe down, good to go. Accurate too at longer distances. Have killed a ton of critters with mine up to 75 yrds.

I have two Wranglers.

Both shoot well, and are tight, quality revolvers.

Accurate too. One has a stiff loading gate, though.

I feel I got my money's worth, and then some. Never been a fan of the Heritage. They just seem cheap to me. Cheap and inexpensive are two different things.

I’ve owned a heritage, not impressed.. I own a pair of wrangles and they are both excellent..
If you want a magnum and gonna beat on it stainless steel single six is hard to beat.

I have owned all 4 of the revolvers listed. The Heritage is the first handgun I ever bought, still kills squirrels at 30', will never sell and has the mag cylinder. Had a single six, sold it when I got a Wrangler, just as good in MO. Hi Standard is an excellent handgun and has 9 shots. Depending on funds, if you want the extra mag cylinder get the Heritage in the 4 5/8" barrel. If not, get the Wrangler or a Hi Standard of you find one at a decent price.

I have no experience with the Wrangler so can't compare them, sorry.

My Heritage was won at a fund-raising raffle so I've got maybe five bucks invested...and I still think I overpaid. It rides in one of the tractor cabs these days but I've got more confidence in the machete lying next to it.

I have owned both for 3 years now, and I will say that in my personal opinion the Wrangler is the better piece by a long shot.

I've had a Heritage since back when Academy was selling them for $99, at least a decade or so. I've never had a problem, but I've also never been impressed. I didn't even like it enough to consider sending in for the 22wmr cylinder. The safety is retarded. I never even considered buying another. I gave it to my youngest son and hope he enjoys it.

I bought the Wrangler as soon as I could find one available. It has been great. The sights don't bother me a bit, I've owned various Vaqueros for years. I would definitely buy another.

I haven't owned a Single Six, but my uncle has two and I have shot them a lot. I would definitely own one, especially a convertible.

The Heritage is a POS. I'd almost rather trust a RG to function and fire.

Be wary of any painted gun you can buy new for $99 on sale.

I'm on a 32 run of Coons, 3 Skunks, 2 Possums and 1 Yote and 1 Hog on my new trapping adventures. The heritage is a fair trap gun I guess. I used it to dispatch these trap line catches, but I have to say its not an accurate pistol. Not really sure why??? I think whats been said before is fair. Something to throw in your ATV/Utv or Jeep to get bounced around then its ok. A pistol to try and kill something pased 15 yards or so your better off with something else. This is one of those guns I'd wish it would perform well but the old addage "you get what you pay for" rings true.

Good choice. I am personally not a fan of any adjustable sights on a pistol or revolver. Shoot fixed sights and practice. You'd be surprised what you can do with a 22 revolver w/fixed sights. IMO, it's just like instinct shooting with a shotgun. Don't overthink it. Just practice.

I wouldn't buy either one sight unseen. My BIL bought the Wrangler and it functions well, but the grip-size is horribly small.

Same size grip as the Ruger Single Six.

I haven't looked at the SS but that is probably going to rule them out as well. The Wrangler is tiny.

Ever seen a bed from the 1800's? Folks back then were shorter and smaller on average. If these revolvers are built on vintage frame sizes, they probably are small for people today.

Personally I'd pass on both and like others go with a Ruger Single 6. The little Ruger is just cheap looking and way to fragile feeling for me, to be honest it just doesn't meet the standards one expects from something with the Ruger name on it. The heritage is just junk from the start and gets worse with age, I've only shot two and both shaved lead out the side due to poor barrel and cylinder alignment.
