Senate Democrats support conservative-backed Texas bill requiring pro-sports teams with state contracts to play national anthemDemocrats in the Texas Senate overwhelmingly crossed the aisle on Thursday to vote in favor of the “Star Spangled Banner Protection Act,” a conservative-backed bill that would require any professional sports teams with contracts with the state government to play the national anthem before the start of a game.

While I like the idea, I think this is more about posing. How many Pro teams in Texas have contracts with the State Govt?
I'm sure there are some at the local City/County level but State? What would those be?

I guess it's the conservative in me that doesn't like the government getting into the affairs of private citizens and companies. We don't need any new laws.

I'm with Choctaw and Sherpa. I love the idea of the national anthem. I love our flag, our military, fire and police. I wish more people loved those things too, but I am 100% against the government dictating that love.

I wish the bill also said you can't kneel either. I just assume them not playing it if they allow it as a platform to protest, maybe that is why the dems like it, they like that platform.

I love the national anthem, but I love the Constitution more. Laws mandating speech seem contradictory to the Constitution which kind of seems contradictory to the national anthem. I don't want any speech mandated even speech I agree with

I'm sure there are some at the local City/County level but State? What would those be? They all do. This is how Jerry took people's homes from them to make his stadium. I believe the intent of the legislation is, if you're going to use the power of the state and the money of the state to assist in creating your professional sports franchise, you will play the national anthem. https://statutes.capitol.texas.gov/Docs/LG/htm/LG.335.htm

I should have used a different article, it was the law that I was most interested in but nobody should be surprised at the bipartisan nature of the government getting into your business
