In response to the thread about 10/22's I couldnt leave this one alone. After wasting 8 minutes of my life reading that thread I decided to make my own thread.

If I had only one gun to survive for hunting self defense and whatever might come across I would say that this one gun could do everything.

I can accessorize a 10/22 in 100 different looks and ways. Kind of like an AR.
Hunt just about anything effectively up to a coyote and if needed you can still hunt deer or pigs with proper shot placement.
25 rounds of kick [censored] for self defense isnt a bad thing in any caliber.
cheap cheap cheap
Easily hidden in a backpack with the Takedown and it is a very light rifle also.

I cant find any faults in this weapon. It can do everything.

I would fully agree with your consensus.

Absolutely love them.

On a good day, on some of our bigger alfalfa fields here in SE Idaho, we can shoot 1-2K rounds a day at ground squirrels. This might go on for several weeks with our 10/22's, and just requires basic cleaning. Kinda like the Ever Ready Bunny!!!

I love the "if i only had one gun" question. I've thought about it alot and probably gonna go 223 in a 16" bolt gun. However, the 10/22 is totally in contention for me and times I vacillate between the 2 rifles when discussing with friends.

Count me also as a HUGE 10/22 fan. it's the only model firearm my wife and I both have the same one of.

I'm a dude who likes long barrels!

I can think of 1 22 rimfire that would be better in MHO. A Savage bolt action better accuracy , less chance of malfunctions. I do have both.

I love my T/Cr22's, which is the T/C clone of the 10/22. I have two of them. I quietly (suppressed) shoot pigs with them from the bow stand with regularity. It even accepts all of the 10/22 aftermarket parts...triggers, stocks, barrels, magazines.

I'll play:
I've never seen a single 10/22 in any Olympic competition let alone win one.
Even my $99 factory stock Marlin M 60 could outshoot my $229 factory stock Ruger 10/22.

stir

nuts

duel

roflmao

I even have a $60 pawn-shop bolt rifle that can outshoot them both!
Ok, now that I got 'erbody pizzed & fired up, in all fairness, each has it's own specific purpose.
My 10/22 'grew up' to wear a 28.5" barrel with match chamber that specifically lets me lob subsonics accurately & w/ fast followup if needed at quarry from a blind as quiet as having a can, without a can. smile
To each it's own - buy the one that meets your needs or build it in a custom 10/22 - it's all good!

My first and still favorite gun. Really loved it after upgrading the bolt buffer. All else stock

“I've never seen a single 10/22 in any Olympic competition let alone win one.”

The biggest reason for that is dependability, not accuracy, (you seem to concentrate on that in your post), you will probably never see a semi-auto.

The 10/22 is an iconic firearm, just like the Ruger Mark I .22 auto pistol, the Colt SAA, the Winchester 1873 and 1894, or the M1 Garand. Each and every one of these designs became a classic because they met the practical needs of millions of shoters.
