Got the first spring gobbler we have taken on our place since 2008. Not sure why but they just don't hang out on our place even though we are right on the Leon river. Went out for fun yesterday and called about 20 minutes and boom a gobbler showed up quietly. Couldn't ever get a shot in the hour he was out and finally talking back but it was exciting. He was just a small jake.
Went out today about 1pm to another location and about 30 minutes later this guy came in to my call. He was quiet also until he was about 30 yards out. Surprised me again when he popped out. I was able to get a pretty easy shot on him at about 20 yards. Both times were just one bird. I know from the neighbors more are in the area so hoping I luck out this year and see a few more. I love wild Turkey fries like chicken strips so this will be a treat.
