...that I couldn't kill a spring turkey in the Kroger meat department. I have never been a "turkey" hunter. I have tried multiple times over the years. I have gotten them to answer a call, but I have never called one in. Saturday I hunted fairly hard. I couldn't hunt very long Saturday morning, I had to be in town at 10 for a meeting, but hunted pretty much all afternoon. I never heard a bird, never saw a bird. Saw plenty of sign and had birds on camera fairly regular. I didn't hunt Sunday morning, I had to be back home for Easter with family. As I am pulling out of the gate I get this picture from my cellular camera.....

I can appreciate your frustration. I spent the weekend hunting in the Hill Country and heard a lot of gobbles but could not call them in. I believe they are hened up and not really interested in chasing hens when all of the hens seem to be with males or on nests. It is getting late in the season so it could be they are just slow to the chase. My best luck has been early in the season sitting near a roost. Once they fly down early in the morning they seem much more responsive to my call. I agree, I love the chase rather than sitting near a feeder. Hang in there and good luck .
