It appears that the 5.7 V8 won’t be an option in 2022. A V6 turbo, with 410+ HP will supposedly be the big engine. That’s more HP than my 5.7, but it isn’t my trusted V8. Also, towing capacity is to be higher, which is good, I suppose, though I don’t need more.
I was gonna buy a new Tundra in 2022, but the new engine does not excite me.
Can I be happy with a V6 turbo?

I'd be happier w/a V6 turbo in my Tundra than my 5.7 BUT it has to be dependable. Have they ran this engine in anything before? Maybe Lexus has been running it in something?

Can I be happy with a V6 turbo? Why not buy a 2021? I assume this is the same 3.5 V6 they run in just about everything, but with added turbos. The next unreliable engine Toyota builds will be the first.

They’ve been running that engine in something I think. It’s Toyota. As much as I hate V6’s, you know it’ll be reliable

They need more than a new engine as far as upgrades go. The nav/enterainment system sucked in my last one....went out 3 times, and they also need a rear end that is geared more toward mileage than towing, which most people who own one don't do. The new Tundra will have coil spring rear end like the Ram, which is a good change as well.

Can I be happy with a V6 turbo? Wonder what the gas mileage is? Guarantee it'll be better than the 5.7! I have a 3.5" lift & 35" tires and get 11.5-12mpg.

Can I be happy with a V6 turbo? I hate to hear that. My 07 Tundra has been great. I was also thinking of a new 2022. Maybe I will just stick with my 07.....it still runs good. The 5.7 is a stud for towing.

I'm happy I got my 2021 now and I don't have to be the test bunny for a 6 banger turbo.

Love the 5.7, I’ve owned two. I’d take the turbo though, it’s a Toyota.

So why can’t they do a turbo 5.7?

For the # of Tundra trucks sold, they're barely a blip on the radar. Lot's of stuff "works", as evidenced by all the Rams, Ford's, and Chevy's in the oil patch.

Bed size depends on what cab size you go with. Exactly, and who needs that monstrous back seat when you can get a bigger bed. Just a no brainer to me.

I've heard speculation that they will launch the next gen Tundra with V6 power only, then wait a couple years to offer a V8 again if the demand is strong enough. My concern is the styling of the new truck. I know its personal opinion, but from what I've seen of the leaked images the new truck is hard on the eyes. Overstyled...to much going on up front.

A few years ago, they were working on a six cylinder turbo diesel.
It never made it to market though.

I have a tundra 4x4 now. I love the truck except for the mileage. 14 mpg. Maybe the new turbo 6 will get better mileage.

Anyone know if the turbo 6 will be the only choice? What about the 4.6 V8?

If Toyota actually brings the turbo 6 to market maybe I’ll consider them once for a change. I’d take the modern turbo 6’s over the v-8’s every time. More economy when you don’t need power and more power when you want it.
