Federal says the are backordered over a BILLION rounds
Surely when these ship, shelves will stock up
I cant imagine nobody has shootable quantities of ammo by now.

How many rounds a day do they produce? If they produce a million a day it will be 3 years for them to just fill backordered demand!!

Seems to me he said a billion dollars, but my memory isn't perfect by any means?
During the previous shortage, .22lr alone was being produced at a combined rate of one million rounds per day by the two or three biggest producers and it took a l o n g time to fill the void. Companies that invested the big bucks to expand production capacity got bit when the inevitable glut hit. They are not going to make that mistake again.
Many manufacturers are quite happy running along at full capacity for long periods of time. As inflation creeps in, they simply raise their prices because they know that they will get it.

When I worked there many years ago it was more than a million per day, 3 shifts a day. Some backorders will cancel when it appears the hoarding is over. They always do, but it will take some time. Keep in mind many backorders are seasonal as well. i.e. promo loads and steel

My gun shop has an order in for 100K rounds of assorted brands of ammo, and it trickles in every week, various calibers. It is gone within hours of hitting shelves. Crazy out there!!

100 rds of Winchester 9mm was 90 bucks this weekend at the gun show and see people burning 3 or 400 rounds at a time on some of the forums I'm on. Guess they have money to burn. 325 round packs of Federal auto match were 85 bucks. Didn't see a lot of people buying ammo.

Be prepared for the long haul. If you find a good deal buy it.
I keep saying the following:
supply chain issues + presidential year + Remington going bankrupt effectively taking out .20%+ of components = 3 yr industry backlog ^2 (due to mid terms) = 6 years to normalize and factor in 4% yoy inflation. Bye bye old days!

325 round packs of Federal auto match were 85 bucks. I'm in at that price if anyone needs AutoMatch that bad ... I'm your guy.
