So my lease mate and i picked up a new lease off 880 about halfway between Putnam and Moran. We are mostly using it for a dove lease and planted native sunflower on a 12 acre field back in January. However the land owner said that he has had the property for about 30 years and used to have good numbers of turkeys on the property as well as quail. However over the past couple of years he hasn't seen any. But to be fair he doesn't run cameras and only has been out there 3-4 times a year to piddle around. He says he thinks it is because of the hogs and we have seen alot and seen some very large hogs out there so that may be the case. I was just curious if anyone hunts in the area or close by what their turkey numbers look like and even their quail numbers for that matter.

Don't know much north of I-20, but I hunt a place south of Baird and the turkeys have not been as plentiful this year as in the past. Another place SE of Cross Plains we have is loaded this year. Quail are poor on both places.

We are just east of you north of Cisco. 4 years ago I could count over 50 at a time. Then a wildfire came through and hit about 15% of the ranch. That combined with predators and hogs have dwindled the turkey population. We still have them but not the numbers we used to see. Good luck on quail - we had a few coveys we would stumble across, but the fire eliminated their cover. The hogs are out of control - we have guys out every weekend shooting them and barely making a dent.

My lease is a few miles north of you on the county line. We have some turkey but never see more than a few on camera at a time. Rare to see in person. Have a few quail but landowner's wife mandates no hunting them. Plenty of pigs.

Im headed that way this weekend. we are NW of you, just west of moran in shackelford. hubbard creek runs through us so we are usually loaded up. i'll get a report back out on tuesday

Guess I am lucky, we are covered up with birds south of 20 in Baird. Counted 47 last weekend in one large group, mostly hens and a few jakes and tom's mixed in.

I have one place on 880 and another a mile east of 880. Turkeys have declined through the years as the hog population increased.. First turkeys in the area were along Battle Creek but eventually spread throughout the area. Unfortunately, the hogs followed the same pattern. Whose place are you leasing? I've been around here since they invented dirt and probably know the owner or at least, the place.

Quail haven't been huntable on my ranch for years. Lots of theories as to why but hogs have certainly been a factor.

I'm off of FM880 around Cottonwood. Turkeys are looking good this year, quail are nonexistent. Loads of predators seem to keep them down.

took my 10 year old out this weekend and we were done 90 minutes in. Saw lots of birds but i don't think theyre fired up about the hens just yet. had a group of six jakes come in to sneak a peek at our setup, not a single gobble and never closed inside of 30 yards. when they decided to not commit and began to walk away he dropped one at 46 yards with his 20 gauge. Good turkey chokes and loads sure do make a difference, but still happy he was able to pull off the shot for his first turkey ever with a shotgun.
