I have a Colt 1917 - made in 1919, US Army equipment. My grandpa took it in on trade for a car in the 70s and I've inherited it now. Probably my favorite gun

In good condition, they're worth around $1k or a little more. If it's rusted or been refinished, the value drops quick.

Do either have a US Property stamp on them?

Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

What a cool pair of revolvers!

Members FRA and CASS helped me with info on my Colt 1917. You might reach out to them, or post pictures on the colt forum. Yours looks to be pretty original and an earlier production I believe. Mine shipped to the Army in nov/dec of 1918 and your serial is 62,300 earlier than mine. I’m no help on the S&W.

Its also interesting that during WWI, these were carried on the right side, butt forward, for cross draw with the left hand. That was a carry over from the times when the left side was already taken for your sword! During WWII some right side, butt to rear holsters were issued for these revolvers.

They are both .45 ACP, best used with moon clips

Thanks BigRon, Smith & Wesson Model 10, was what I carried in the Philippians in the early 60's while in the USN.

Got these in my hands this morning. They are much nicer in person, so nice I might keep one. Besides normal wear and some patina, they are like brand new. You can tell they we rarely shot.

I'll post more detailed picks when I post them for sale.

The hammer is wrong on the S&W for the serial number, indicating it went through re-arsenal at some point, and the hammer replaced with the later hammer.

Also, on the S&W the serial number on the butt does not match the crane. Bluing on the cylinder doesn’t appear to match the frame. Same with the barrel. With the above, I have a high confidence the S&W either went through re-arsenal at a US Armory, or later in civilian hands.

The Colt was manufactured near the end of the production run. Reference Service Number on bottom of grip and serial number on the crane.

Many years ago I carried a Model 10 much like that one in 38 while working as a commissioned bank guard. That bank got stormed with an aggressive armed robbery one week after I left. Glad I was not there as I doubt I would have been much help with that revolver. Hated that gun then, but admire them now.
