I currently have a 2015 Ram 1500 ecodiesel. I absolutely love the truck, and up to 98,500 miles it has been absolutely flawless. No codes no check engine lights, not even a light bulb out etc. It does what a 1/2 ton pickup needs to do and returns awesome fuel economy for what it is.

About a month ago I took it in to have several outstanding recalls done. Before taking it in I spoke with 2 different people at the dealership who both assured me they had all the parts on hand to do the recalls as I had known the EGR cooler was on back order for most places. I got the truck back sooner than promised... and of course they said they didn't have parts for 2 of the recalls so I would have to bring it back. About 2 weeks after the recalls i have a check engine light come on and another week after that the DPF plugged up. So back to the dealer we go, the service advisor said they would have it for 3 days. I dropped it off Monday (3/22) after hours with a scheduled service appointment for 8am the following day (3/23) so I expected to get my truck back maybe Thursday or Friday. I got a text Wednesday that they had finally checked the truck into their system and that was it. This Monday (been in the shop for service for 5 business days already) i called the service advisor who told me the would get the truck in for diagnosis hopefully tomorrow (Tuesday 3/30) So today i get a text that it is in they have diagnosed it and are going to replace the DPF under part of the emissions warranty(would have been $4300 out of pocket) and there are several other things that need service. He said they "checked" the front and rear differentials, transfer case, transmission, fuel filter and air filter and they are all dirty and need to be replaced/serviced. He also said a coolant flush was "required" after the EGR was replaced under the recall.

I did my last oil change as well as the differentials, transfer case, transmission, and fuel filter less than 3,000 miles ago. I told him the manual states the coolant is good for 10 years/150k miles, I still have 5 years and 50,000 miles left, if it need to be done because of the recall it needs to be taken care of under the warranty. He said right away that they would probably cover it, I guess he just wanted to see what he could get me to pay for. These people would screw over their own mothers! Now the truck has been in the shop for going on its 7th day, parts will arrive tomorrow and hopefully I will get it back before the weekend. wtf

San Antonio Dodge, Ram, Chrysler, Jeep SUCKS!

Almost organized crime the way I see it. Dealers make so little on new vehicle sales, they are not afraid to screw and tatoo any and everyone they can regarding parts and service. Pisses me off as well.

Buddy dealerships are nothing but legal scam artists, they all suck. I had just serviced my diffs and trans and took it in for an alternator recall and I was told the exact same thing that they checked them and they were all dirty and needed changed and flushed. They had less than 15 miles on them from being changed, other than recall stuff they won’t touch anything of mine. When they work on something they usually end up screwing up more than they tried to fix in the first place..

That dealership sounds an awful lot like the Chevy dealership in Aransas Pass (Aransas Autoplex). I bought my ex wife a new Tahoe, and chit was literally falling apart before we even left the dealership! The plastic storage compartment behind the drivers seat, and the cover for the outside drivers door handle FELL OFF in the parking lot. We got home, and then I discovered the windshield wiper tank was cracked and leaked all of the fluid out onto driveway....and the rear windshield wiper squirter quit working . WTF! Brand new $40,000 truck.

Called them, took it in, and the rest sounds like your story. It took them 1 1/2 weeks to fix the damn thing.
That dealership has been like that every time I have used them.

I had a 2014 Ram 2500 that I really liked. But the dealerships and the service on it was HORRIBLE. I tried every dealer within 50 miles of me and all were the same. Couldn't get to the truck for a couple of weeks, would need to keep it for a week or more, no loaners, etc. And it was all simple stuff, most of it recall work.

I ended up going back to Ford just because the dealer here has always taken care of me. Can get it in same or next day, always done same day, and a loaner to drive for the day it's in the shop. No more Ram for me because of that, which is a shame, because I really like the trucks. I actually had a conversation with corporate about it. They got my feedback and someone called and acted like they cared. Doesn't look like they fixed it though.

If you want a half ton truck, just go ahead and get a Tundra. Quit fighting it.

I have -0- confidence in any domestic dealers I’ve dealt with.

Had an overheating issue with my 2012 F150 ecoboost. Took it to the dealer, told them it was overheating & the fans were constantly running. Their response “uh...you know it gets hot in Houston. It’s Summer”. Took it to another dealer who promptly diagnosed a failing water pump.

They can never replicate a sound/problem. As soon as you drive away, you hear/experience the sound/problem.

Lexus, by far, has the best experience. Problem? Sure....bring it in, fix it correctly, extend the warranty, have an equivalent loaner the entire time.

Waiting on the 2022's to come out and see what updates they make on the motors and transmissions. I almost hate letting my 2003 4Runner go, but I am missing having a truck.

Rumor is a turbo 3.5L as the top engine on the Tundra. I think 8 speed transmission.

Man I hate to hear that. I have had some pretty bad experiences with dealerships. Most are just like glorified oil change places trying to upsell the unwary. My guess is none of that fluid replacement even needs to be done.

I know none of the fluid replacement needs to be done. I did it myself in my driveway with full synthetic fluids.

I have considered a tundra, my only negative towards them is fuel mileage. My current diesel ram averages around 30 mpg empty. If im going to take the cut in fuel mileage that i would to get a tundra im going to get a GM/Ford 3/4 ton gas and have something I can put a pallet of concrete in the bed of.

I"d wait and see too......my last Tundra Crew 4x4 was in the shop 4 times under 75k fixing electronic/nav/cold start issues. Hardly bulletproof, and you'd better own interest in a refinery to keep fuel in the thing. The Tundra dinosaur need updating bad to be competitive.

Agree.

I would love to know the hard figures of what extra money, materials and emissions the mandate to use EGR, DPF, and SCR has done to the pickup market, producers, buyers, and the over all emissions footprint.

My guess is lots of money down the drain and worse over all emissions footprint.

A tailgate latch i never had a problem with, re programming the transmission so if you try to drive with the door open it will put itself in park, an egr cooler that is prone to leaking although mine didn't and re-programming the computer for how the emissions system runs and reprogramming the computer to allow it to draw a crank position signal from the cam IF the crank position sensor/tone wheel fail.

Doesn't sound to bad to me. None of them have a major affect on the truck and there was nothing wrong with it before.

I don't trust any dealer and I have my oil changes done at a independent shop.Yes I have some recalls that need to be done but I hate to deal with service reps at dealerships but guess i'm going to have to deal with somebody.I also need a front-end alignment and SIL said take it to a dodge dealer, yeah right.

That's my one hang-up with Ram - none of the dealers - around here at least - have loaners.

I briefly owned a F-150 that was a lemmon/shop queen and my local Ford dealer (whom I did not buy it from) always had a loaner. Wife has an Explorer and it needed a new hood/paint under warranty (don't get me started) - loaner from dealer no problem at all (for nearly 3 weeks while waiting on the hood). Platinum Ford seems to be pretty straight forward on service - minus 3,000 calls about an extended warranty.

Redchevy - the emissions stuff sucks...good luck. Ram put a completely new exhaust system (EGR, DPF) in my 2014 2500 under warranty @ 85,000 miles. It quickly got traded after that.

Yes I despise the emissions BS. Ill roll over 100k on it this weekend, no issues and its been running normal. It has still been a great vehicle for me other than the dealer service is less than desirable LOL

I have a lot of financial irons in the fire at the moment, but I believe once we close on our new house im going to go back in time to a simpler place and buy a 5.9 cummins, its what i should have done when i bought this one.

Good luck finding one you wont have to refinance the house for. Those 5.9s are going for an absolute premium these days.

Define absolute premium? Ive seen several for 20-25,000. Id rather do that and drop 15-20k into it to make it new than spend 50+ on a new one ill have to worry about reliability on.

Preach! Mine is 24 years old and I'd drive it anywhere and get around 16mph loaded to the gills!

I have a 2018 Dodge Ram 5.7. Been a great truck. A couple of weeks ago I got a check engine light. Stayed on for a few days. So I got out my trusty check engine light computer and plugged it in. It said I had either a emissions leak or bad gas. I deleted the codes and everything has been normal since then. No more lights and the truck runs great. I just wonder if I had taken it to the dealer what the outcome would have been?
