Thanks for the recommendation. I just checked my local Library's web site. 9 Years is available for 21 day loan in both e-book and audiobook formats.

The Captured is an outstanding book following one boy captured near Mason and then expanding to many other Anglo and German kids who were captured and raised by Indians, then following what happened to them if/when they returned (or tried to return) to white society. Great read.

Empire of the Summer Moon is one of my favorites -- but I also grew up around Quanah so it's a bit more personal for me.

Ya know, I read a lot. Mostly paperback Westerns that I get from the Bowie flea market. An awful lot of “writers” don’t justify the name.

Referrals from other readers matter.

I’ve read all of those. They’re good Lehman is buried at Loyal Valley between Mason and Fredericksburg. My cousins in Mason talk about how Lehman would do shows in town for people when he was a bit older. Ofcourse that was in the teens and twenties so I can’t confirm

Just finished reading it.

And I will say two things:

First, anytime a publication is prefaced by stating that it is 'factual', that there is no 'exaggeration' or 'Boasting', you may be certain there is PLENTY.

Second, IF the accounts of both the Apache and Comanche Tribes are representative of those cultures (at that time), then I find little to nothing to admire about them and understand to a large degree why they were feared and despised by the Whites.

I have no doubt a good part of it is true. I am just as certain parts of it were embellished.

Worth the read....but I'm taking many parts of it with a 'boulder' of salt.

Nice one!

Read a lot of these and just ordered some from y’all’s recommendations. Thanks!
I run a publishing company that has put out a handful of books about Indigenous Elders and specifically Native American Indians - my mentor, Harvey Arden, worked for National Geographic for 23 years and he has a few best selling books in this arena. He accumulated tons of recordings from Elders about their early childhood. Fascinating histories!

Dang, did you find on your place here in Deep East Texas?

I ask because that looks like Georgetown Flint/Chert?

Very nice find. Cool that it still has some cortex attached at the base.
