Found this old photo in an antique store. Back says Junction, TX 1923. As I have seen from other photos during the early part of the 20th century, Savage and Winchester lever actions were the order of the day.

Provocative displays from the past which for no good reason are considered unacceptable this day. I lovey it.

The choice of hunting attire from those days is always interesting too!

I was born and raised in Junction. None of those fellers look familiar. Of course, that was taken 51 years before I was born, so it's been a while.

I love the old hunting photos. I bet they didn’t waste an ounce of meat. Tough times for some.

Very cool picture. Levers were the choice of most before the 30s. The model 70 win took the market by storm in the 30s.
Surplus guns like Mauser and Springfield 1903 and Krags were used a lot also.

I like to make up a story to fit the photo. I’m seeing the older man on the right as a 1st or 2nd generation immigrant, his son on the left, and his grandson in the middle. All of them seem very happy to be there and proud of their kills.

Meat hunters, no trophy hunters back then

My guess is that for those people, they had both.....meat and a trophy. Somehow they were successful without camo clothing!

Quite evident that they are not ranchers as a rancher would never hang the carcasses over a barbwire fence...almost as bad as a kid swinging on a gate.
There were some really big deer in Kimble County back in those days before overstocking of sheep, goats and eradication of the screwworm.
Adios,
Gary

That was back when cell phones took only black & white photos.

Adios,

I was thinking the same thing. Never seen a deer hung on a fence for display.
