These are my 9mm self defense load..... using RMR jacketed HP’s... this time last year I paid under 9.00 per 100 for the bullets but prices are up now.

This ASSumes I wasn't prepared and needed some but I would pay $0.20 per round for FMJ and $0.70 per round for HD/SD.
I can load either myself for $0.10/$0.30 each.
Pass the gravy.

we'll never see the "old" retail again. Manufacturers can see what people are willing to pay for ammo and will take the Capitalism "road" till people quite buying and hoarding. Limits will also stay in place until people quit buying, Which will never stop now.

I hope I am adequately supplied right now, but the most I would plan to pay is retail (versus secondary market).

"They" know we will pay if we need. Same goes for all reloading components.

For those saying 'I can load it for X' how many of you consider the cost of your time? At $50-100/hr you're not loading 16 cent ammo.

Limits will also stay in place until people quit buying, Which will never stop now. The biggest reason will be because of the trillions of giveaway dollars. You caint print that much money and expect the dollar to NOT lose value.

The manufacturers haven't raised the prices much...the middle and end sellers people are the ones hammering us right now. I pretty much take mental notes from these times and make sure the avoid those places in the future. Back in the Clinton days Brunos in AZ hammered us shooters both in product price, hazmat price and shipping price...I haven't ordered from them since that time and won't unless it's an emergency. Midway has taken a page out of the Brunos book and I now have and will avoid Midway at all costs...terrible how some of these folks want to get greedy during these times. Hogs get slaughtered and the pigs get fat....no reason to be a hog.

Hodgdon 700x and Winchester Super Field powders to feed my shotgun habit. Those are my target powders of choice for the 12 and 20. I paid $22.50/pound for the Winchester powder and $18.50/pound for the Hodgdon. 2 weeks ago I bought 4 pounds of Longshot for hunting loads for $76. Larry Potterfield can go piss up a rope.

That train of thought would be akin to claiming it costs less to hire a guide to take me to the deer lease cause I charge myself $100/hour to go hunting.

Hobby reloaders, though you don't charge for your labor it should still be factored in when comparing pricing from businesses that sell manufactured ammo. Labor is factored into retail sales.
I am still looking for the perfect apron, one with reinforced knee areas would be perfect.

Do you all seriously know to a cent what your reloads cost? I never got into reloading to save money, I got into reloading to make the rifle more accurate...period, end of story. I don't know what mine cost per round and I don't see me ever adding it up because it doesn't play into it for me. At the same time, I'm not paying .20 per primer either.

I got into reloading to make ammo like I wanted it not for cost savings. I like gas guzzler’s analogy.
If I were using this ammo to make a living and it was labor that’s one thing but it’s an enjoyable hobby just like tinkering with guns/ scopes and all the associated Toys that come with handloading my own ammo.

I screwed up and agreed to pay $35.00 for Monarch brass case so that’s .70 per round.

Buzz, I am curious what you consider hoarding vs. planning ahead and stocking up as a hedge against inflation and limited availability? Marc

I don't know what mine cost per round and I don't see me ever adding it up because it doesn't play into it for me. At the same time, I'm not paying .20 per primer either. I recently added up what my reloads cost simply because I was loading some for a few friends and had them pay me for the cost only. No, TXgunner, I didn't factor my time into the cost. I actually get enjoyment in producing my own, consistent, accurate ammo. But, I don't reload 9mm. So, to answer Buzz's question, 40¢ for range ammo. and around $1 for defensive ammo. But, as my stash dwindles, those figures might start creeping up. I haven't had to buy any pandemic ammo yet.

I don't care (within reason) what they cost me. I load for higher quality ammo, not cost. I can't yet say what I'm willing to pay for primers. I will sit idle before I pay .20 per. I will also not give up my hobby and let thousands of dollars worth of rifles and related equipment collect dust.
