Some dealers just don't like to haggle. I searched for 3 months before I bought the Sonata. I went through Hiley Hyundai in Burleson. I know it's about 5 hours from you, but they also have Mazda. You may want to find what you want, and if either are a Mazda or Hyundai, I'd contact 'em. Seriously, great service.

Wish I'd known you were looking a couple months back as I Traded the Wifes 2018 Lincoln MKX (21,000 miles) in on a New Expedition. They didn't give me nutten on trade in or what I paid for it. . Could have got it on the cheap.

So trades aren’t bringing a premium either?

I feel like we got a premium on our trade. Dealer offered 16k, Carmax gave us 21k.

We are on our second RX350 (wife’s car) and we really like it. Before we bought the present Lexus, we looked at the Honda Pilot and the Toyota Highlander. I liked the Pilot, except for the push button shifter, which apparently is a concern at the auto car washes. Maybe they got rid of that push button shifter, I don’t know. I liked the Highlander, but if you get it loaded, you might as well get the Lexus. And, when we were in Wyoming for a wedding, we rented a Highlander. It had the small engine, and was pretty gutless, and it just wasn’t as comfortable as the Lexus.

Enlcave Avenir is a slick ride. MIL traded a Caddy for one and is loving it. That is a very nice car and has 3 rows.

So trades aren’t bringing a premium either?

Well if you pay over $50,000 and they give you half at trade in 4 years later and it goes on all the time. Now They sell it at a premium, Not in on trade.I don't need the hassel of showing /selling them myself and really don't care.

Bought the wife a VW Atlas a year or so ago and we both love it. Our choice was between the Atlas or and Explorer and we ended up going with the Atlas for a few reasons. The biggest one was that to get all of the options we wanted in the Explorer we would have had to get the Platinum editions whereas all of the options we wanted were in a mid trim level Atlas for far less money. For example 2nd row bucket seats, AWD, and the upgraded Navigation/Audio system as well as a ton of other tech upgrades, all of which came standard in the VW model we chose..

I'll come out and say it; Minivan!!!! That 2.5 year old is going to be smacking people's doors in a regular vehicle and the side opening doors of a van make it 100x easier to get kids in and out of. Expedition level space in an Explorer size vehicle.

Thanks,
Rich

I have an Atlas and haven’t had any issue’s with it since day one. We are at 66k miles approaching 67k mixed miles. I have four kiddos and wish we bought one with captains chairs in the middle rather than the bench seat, that really my only complaint but when we bought it we were a party of 5. I take it regularly to get the maintenance done at VW and just replaced the front brakes and rotors, spark plugs and timing belt. I’m really impressed with how much it is to stay maintained by the dealership. All together I’ve spent around $3000 in total including the above maintenance. We might be upgrading to an Escalade due to our kiddos getting bigger and the captains chairs.

Wife has a RX350, you can't go wrong with that choice.

If you plan on having any more kids I would just get a Tahoe, the new ones are really nice and drive great. We went the midsize SUV route many years ago and ended up going bigger after a year or so.

We went through all of this in December 2018. I don't know how much you travel or if you're planning on a second kiddo, but we outgrew our Explorer once the second kiddo hit the ground. We made it work fine for 7 months, but it just seemed to get pretty tight. We travel most weekends and even though we had the 3rd row folded down the majority of the time we drove it, it got tight with bags, stroller, diaper bag, etc. etc. and we weren't even in the age of needing to haul a kids bike yet.

We test drove all of the mid to big size SUVs and ended up in a Tahoe (wife's initial "want"). We absolutely loved the Atlas EXCEPT for the rear air vents not being in the ceiling. With two kids in car seats with Texas summers, unfortunately it was a deal breaker for us. Air vents in the ceiling was the one and only thing we wouldn't compromise on when buying a vehicle. Shortly after we got the tahoe the new expeditions came out....sure wish i would have looked into that, but we're happy with what we have.

The 2019s were out when we bought my wife's 2018 tahoe. It was still considered a "new" vehicle but was a demo. "New" meaning it still had all of the warranties and everything that a new vehicle has since it was never registered to anyone. If you can find any demo models, they'll tend to work pretty well on the price for you. We got 20k off of sticker with our demo that only had 7k miles. I'm not pushing the tahoe in the slightest, just make sure you look at the small things (airvents) and the big picture (another kiddo).

If you're cross-shopping Lexus and Kia you're doing it wrong.

Thank you for pointing that out. Those air vents don’t seem like a big deal but that is the only gripe I have about my dads 4Runner it takes forever to cool off in the summers
