I am looking to start planting some food plots. Probably a total of 10-15 acres (2-3 acres each times five blinds)

I have a 75 HP MFWD tractor but beyond that am starting from scratch and am unsure what to get equipment wise.

I usually plant wheat or hay grazer at my house on about 20 acres but all the equipment I use for that is too big to transport to the ranch or get down the ranch roads if I somehow got it there. Normally I chisel plow, disc it, then plant with a grain drill.

Should I go for a similar set up just narrower equipment or are there better options?

I merely use a tandem disk and plow the plot, sling seeds by hand or use a road feeder on the buggy, the lightly disk back over the top just brushing the ground to cover the seeds.

I do pretty much the same thing PMK is doing, but use a piece of chain-link fence to drag over the plot after seeding.

I am glad that works for you guys but I am wanting to do it with the tractor. 15 acres is a pretty big chunk of land to plant any other way. I was looking at the genesis of land pride no till drills. Not having to work the ground would be nice and a huge time saver.

Disc, soil samples, amend soil accordingly, heavy chain harrow to prepare seedbed.

If you're going all out on your food plots and plan to for years to come, or want to be able to do food plots or plant various species for others.

X2 on the soil test so that if any lime is needed it can be applied well in advance of planting.

Here is what I have: 50HP 4WD tractor, 7' heavy duty tandem disc (spend the money!!), 500# seed/fertilizer slinger (wash thoroughly after fertilizing)
My next purchase would be a 3pt sprayer

I only plant 2 plots about 2.5 acres each

late spring/summer: iron and clay peas, sunflower + milo
fall: oats, wheat, peas

I've never had a sprayer that was worth the money. So finally this is what I did.

I am totally inept when it comes to tools and making stuff, so If I can put this together, so can you. It is very simple to make. I went through two sprayers that I bought, one at tractor supply and one at Atwoods in 3 years. They just don't hold up. I paid $299 for each one. Hose's rotted, tank got a hole in it from bouncing over the ground full of water, tires went flat from weight of water. Just did not hold up.
So, here is what I came up with and it cost me about $125 and I have used it for the last 3 years. Now that cost is not completely accurate
as I already had one of the main parts.

Now here is what I had to buy.
1. 55 gallon plastic barrel...$15
2. two 6' hoses...$12
3. two 4' sections of pvc, two joint sections of pvc, two water sprinkler heads,(not the whole head, just the dial part), and a T section of pvc that had a hose connection. $15

I ran one hose to the barrel from the pump, and one hose from the pump to my pvc sprayer. I hope the photos can give you a better ideal of what I am talking about.

I havent read any of this thread but I like Mr T and Ive seen his food plots and I like them as well.

Getting equipment to where you hunt is always a problem, at least for me. I only have to trailer my tractor and implements about 40 min, but once I get there, its several miles of really bad logging roads. I made the mistake of trying to take my tractor to one of my areas still on the trailer and one down hill section make me pucker up big time.

I only have small plots so I can plant my with my box blade for the most part. I need a disc, but getting one on a trailer thats heavy enough to do a good job is another thing.
