Would you rather be on top of the hill on a flat or at the base of the hill?

Do deer tend to do one over the other?

Where ever I can see the most because you can’t kill’em if you can’t see’em. Most of the time that’s the high ground but not always. Crop fields in the bottoms would be one low ground exception that comes to mind.

I'd have stands at both top and bottom, play the wind and the deer activity

In general you want to be above the game your hunting for sight and scent.

Some variables to consider such as how big a hill are we talking about, is there a lot of trees/dense cover on this hill and the land below, rifle or bow hunting?

This hill with a rifle on top, a bow against a tree or bush above a travel route.

This picture with a rifle finding an opening that overlooks as many trails as possible regardless of where, with a bow find what I perceive as the best travel route.

Top of the hill...………
Watching over the entire bottom!

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

We have 4 stands on our place. One more or less on the highest point and one more or less on the lowest point. The high and the low are our two best stands.

So many factors to consider, we have blinds in saddles, on ridges, the bottoms. Have had success in all of them. The common denominator has been fairly close to heavy cover, water and food source and bedding areas.

Top if rifle (just to overlook the bottom) bottom if bow. Deer will travel the bottom and cross ridges in the saddles. They very rarely travel the top. I've bow killed 15 plus deer between 140 and 184 in Canada, Texas, Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Michigan. All in the bottom. I love the treads like these. They insure that more deer will be in the woods when I hunt. That's my experience

Top or bottom? hmmmmm.... I once had a girlfriend that sent me a greeting type card. It had a small cat on top of a big dog. The caption from the cat said "I like it on top". Im a noticer, so from then on our "relationship" improved.

I’d say scout the traffic then find a spot half way down the hill with cover than has visibility up and down.
