We have a 4 seater and a 2 seater and love both of them. I prefer the 2 seater myself for its agility in the woods but if I we’re shopping for a new one tomorrow I’d buy the same units. I opted to go with the base model XP1000’s and building them the way I wanted them but that’s up to the user.

Power steering is definitely worth it. My Ranger does not have it, but my Pioneer does and it makes it so much easier to drive.

Yes. I almost broke my arm driving a UTV without power steering.

Absolutely worth it. Easier to hold your beer and drive.

I personally would not buy an ATV/UTV without power steering. In rough terrain, it's almost essential to have unless you feel like getting your butt kicked every time you drive.

I've owned 2 Rangers and neither one has had power steering. Next UTV I buy will not have power steering either. I hunt in some rough country in West Texas and never needed it. I have road in Rangers, Mules and Can-ams that have it did not see anything special about it. What did see was it cost $1000 more and then one more thing to break down on a Ranger that already breaks down a lot.

He can squeeze a quarter into a silver dollar. Damn ol Mesquite bean soup eating hill country Germans. Lol

Not going to say I don't admire them.

OP if you run rough stuff a lot ESP is a huge plus, keeps from breaking your arm. I personally would get it.

scratch I would own one if there were any available and the few available are at full list or over list. My next buy will be a Mule or Can-am.

Clown, if I had your money I would burn mine. If I had the money you spent on lost and repairs on torn up items, I could buy a new UTV and have money left over to hunt for several years. grin

I can see where some would want to save money and not go with the power steering but in the context of all things we enjoy outdoors what’s a little more money for the one thing we love and if it makes things that much easier then so be it. If you hunt in the woods and have to do very much turning it’s a game changer, if your running over rough ground it might keep your fingers from getting broke “I’ve Had That Happen” and if you enjoy a sudsy beverage while out riding then it’s simply something that becomes a must have option. It’s not something I would have deemed you needed before owning my first one with it but I can tell you I’ll never own one without it again, ever.. If you plan on installing larger tires then you can either go with it or forever hate yourself on your decision later because their a pain to drive at slow speeds.

I felt the same about the PS, however the way these thongs have changed over the years reminds me of cars and trucks equipped with AC or automatic tranny years ago. In regards to the original question it comes to a need and want scenario.

I called the San Antonio Honda dealer and requested a quote on a tricked out Pioneer. The kid responded quickly, but forgot to quote a roof. I asked for him to quote a roof and told him that I'd looked on the Honda website and his price seemed to be way over list, even taking into account extra fees, "title" (?), etc. He responded asking if I can come into the dealership and "speak to my sales manager". rolleyes I don't play that stupid game. He also said his "parts guys" will be happy to show me all the add-on accessories that I wanted. I ran a parts and service department for years. Parts guys are never "happy". Website listed "destination charge" of 870.00, dealership lists "Freight" at 999.00. Dealership also lists "prep" at 700.00...to wash the dam thing?! Labor to install accessories - 700.00+. Do customers really bend over this much to have one of these? I know Honda is a reliable and in-demand brand but hijole.

I already have a Kawasaki Mule and I wanted something that's not a POS. I now have a XP1000 that can rip the mule in half if I wanted to. I did get the power steering too and it's quite nice.

I love reading threads like this cuz they are a hoot. Some folks hate Polaris and would never own one, some folks hate Mules, some Canam’s, etc. Its like going to a truck forum and asking if a guy should buy a Ford, Chevy or Dodge! Something tells me regardless of which brand side by side (or truck) one buys...there is the potential for problems. Im currently looking at a Canam Defender Crew or a Polaris Ranger Crew. Since i have had neither...and they are both in the same ballpark...i guess i will find the dealer that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy and can actually get me the product...cuz lord knows asking for opinions on any forum will get you more confused than just going in blind! lol

FYI, i too asked the dealer about the “prep” fee and was told that polaris ships their products in crates...DISASSEMBLED!?! The good news is, the dealer was also discounting the product over $900!

Good luck on your decisions and choices...not sure there is a right or wrong at this point!

I bought the Texas Edition last May and love it. For my lease the power steering is helpful and never caused any problems. Time will tell.
